Post a song cover that is the GOAT not being from the original band or any member. I never like to use the term "As good as the original" because that is misleading...

Give me a song played by a cover / tribute/ different band that nailed it....

For me, Brit Floyd's original playing of Pigs in their very first concert in Liverpool, England 2011. Bobby Harrison was in the band then and played bridge but Damien Darlington solo starting at 9:30 is just unreal.

Interesting that you used a Allman Brothers song. Im not much of a country guy but go see Zac Brown every year. My wife loves him. He was a good friend of Greg. Since he died, Zac does a lot of his music. They did Whipping Post this year and nailed it big time...

Whipping Post

I have also taken Zac's father fishing a couple of times and he is a great down to earth guy...

they also did an album of public enemy covers (called fear of a brown planet).

Opeth - Bridge of Sighs (Robin Trower)

Opeth - Soldier of Fortune (Deep Purple)

Opeth - Would? (Alice in Chains)

All fo those are seriously legit. Soldier of Fortune was a excellent tune from DP

I'm confused. Does the song have to be done by a cover band, or are you just looking for really good covers? I mean, I want to say:

Joe Cocker - With a Little Help From My Friends

But I'm not sure that's what you are asking for.

Love the Allman Brothers, and you're right Zac Brown does a phenomenal job covering them. If I'm going to listen to new age country Zac Brown is the only artist I'll listen to. Zac did a great job covering some WSP songs not too long ago as well.

Pantera Planet Caravan

Tool You Lied

Tool No Quarter

Edit: My bad just read the OP. Justin Chancellor was also in Peach for You Lied. I guess that violates the rules.

Failure - Enjoy the Silence

Type O Negative - Cinnamon Girl

Johnny Cash - One (Everyone goes gaga over his cover of "Hurt," but I think this one is superior)

Powerman 5000 - Electric Avenue (Don't know if you would say they "nailed it," but it is at least a very fun cover of the song)

Paul McCartney--“I was especially pleased when he decided to cover ‘With A Little Help From My Friends’ and I remember him and Denny Cordell coming round to the studio in Saville Row and playing me what they’d recorded and it was just mind blowing, totally turned the song into a soul anthem and I was forever grateful for him for doing that."
