I'm right with you Drunken. I sooo wish they would, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Also, it is really cool to hate on them right now.

Lou Reed with Metal Machine Music.

What are they going to say? 'Yeah, this album will suck.'
With that said, I'll give it a listen. I really hope it is good, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
Oh, and PR/marketing ploy. Anything to get people talking about the album is good.

I gave this album two full listens to try and be objective, but it blows many cocks. I don't know if the bassist is a liar or just retarded, but his comments about this being a return to the wilder sound couldn't be farther off. It's obvious they gave it an effort on "Don't Matter" but that's the only track with a pulse and they seem to think the only difference between the old and new sound is the volume level on the amps. The other tracks are whiny, repetitive, and easily forgettable. I'm sure it's selling like crack in Detroit alley though, so props to them for getting theirs.

I disagree to an extent. This absolutely is NOT a return to their early sound. It does, however have some songs that I like.
Beautiful War = straight radio power ballad, but I like it.
Rock City
Tonight
Don't Matter

Not really too blown away by this...I think once you in a sense "sell out" and have your original fans turn on you, there isn't really much coming back from that. Throw in their meltdown awhile back and it's pretty much over

I wasn't either, but for some reason I felt like I owed them one last shot. I was cautiously optimistic after Followill's comments and some rumors that they had changed labels.
High C, I'm sure there are a few tracks there that are good if the last two records grew on you, they just never did for me.

That's just it, Only by the Night made me sick, and I listened to the last one exactly one time and never picked it up again. I'm as surprised as anyone that I'm liking some songs on the new one.

I really like this album

The more I find out what a self-absorbed drunk prick Caleb is, the less I want to hear them.

Eh, a lot of musicians are self-absorbed pricks. From what I understand, Van Morrison is a raging raging a-hole, and I think he's the best songwriter alive.
I do hate Ryan Adams more because of his assholery. But I never liked him that much in the first place.

The "youth and young manhood" sound isn't coming back, y'all.
If you hated every album after "a-ha shake", then KOL ain't your band.

That's plenty easy to say in hindsight, and deep down I knew it, but the comment made by a band member explicitly said otherwise. I understand some people will like it, but to me it's pretty obvious what those comments were intended to do.

I've said it many times before.

Why would the band themselves want to go back to an earlier sound bobby?

I don't think they do. People accuse KOL of selling out, but I see it as a natural progression from raw ---> polished that happens with a lot of bands.
Because "youth" and "a-ha" were really raw and then a little less raw, respectively (but still raw), people operated under the assumption that this is who KOL was. I don't see it that way. They were still green. They were still figuring out what they wanted to be. And so the KOL you hear in the recent albums is who KOL is. Some people hate who KOL is. I still like them quite a bit.

So have I, and I would have never made this thread without the comments from the band. My posts earlier in this thread were even more cynical than I remembered, but I wanted to believe.
