I love feeding my song ideas into it. Just be sure that you don't post your work online anywhere anymore, like Soundcloud, because Suno will scrape it and flag it as copyrighted.

Yeah, I won't be letting it do any writing first of all. Will only be using it for demos to pitch to publishers on songs that are finished and copyrighted already.
Basically letting suno do a stylized cover of my finished songs.

I hate it, but this is what it's come to. If the publishers are accepting it and other writers are using it, I have to take advantage of it any way that I can.
I'm not going to use it to do my writing, I don't need it for that, just as a production tool.
I haven't even bought a subscription yet, but I have found this out already: I can get a song written that I'm happy with, record a guitar/vocal track, feed that to the program with a few descriptive prompts for genre, instrumentation and style and in a minute it will give me back a couple of different versions of my song. Saving me hours and hours, not to mention what I would need to pay a really good banjo, fiddle and stand-up bass player, if you can even get them to show up to record. I've only used it once, it stayed true to my progression and lyrics, it just changed the tempo, style and instrumentation.
I talked to a writer the other day, who currently has a song on the Country charts. He uses it the same way. He asked me, "would you want to be the last carpenter that refused to use a nail gun or electric saw?"

The nail gun and the saw are the banjo and the fiddle in your example. But still, I don't think it's a good analogy to compare the creative process a human does in music (or carpentry) to inserting AI into the creative process. The tools themselves don't create. You are the creator. But when you allow AI to do even some of the creating, then your work isn't fully your own any more.

It won't be doing any of the creation, the songs will already be fully written before AI touches them. It's just a stylized cover that it puts out.
AI takes the place of hired musicians in this case. They don't get song credit either.

I don't understand what you mean by "stylized cover." What exactly are you getting AI to do?

Just busting ya balls some, do what you think you gotta do. I don’t like the fact that now any average Joe can “make music” by just speaking ideas into a machine. I actually think it’s pretty disgusting to us creative types who’ve been putting in years of work honing our songwriting skills. There was a sense of pride in that that I think now is slowly diminishing. I personally think we’re witnessing the death of all art.
I’m that last carpenter though, firmly clutching my hammer…

It is mostly doing what would happen, if I handed one of my songs over to a band that plays a different genre of music. Sort of like what happened when UB40 recorded Neil Diamond's "Red Red Wine" or when Hendrix recorded Dylan's All Along The Watchtower. Dylan and Diamond still completely own the songs.

From what I have seen and heard. The ones that aren't good musicians and writers, aren't getting very good songs out of it. The better song that you put in, the better the product that you will get out of it. It's pretty obvious.

I recorded my first demos at a studio with a 24 track reel to reel setup. Alesis machines didn't even exist yet. It cost me a week's paycheck to record 2 songs.
I've been at this for a long time.

So what is the point of the stylized cover? Are you trying to sell that version instead of your own?

The song is the song. It's already completely written. You don't sell versions of anything. The demo is exactly what the name implies "demonstration model". That doesn't mean that an artist would record it that way. You are only trying to get it published and pitched to artists. You are only trying different styles to entice the publisher to publish it.
It's like using different color rubber worms to catch a fish. It's still the same piece of rubber.

Hold on. When you say that you wrote the music, what are you saying? Did you play any of the instruments? Those vocals are AI. Or did you write the lyrics and use prompts to create the actual music? No need for analogies or vagueness. I just want to understand what you are doing here.

You may want to read the updated terms of service that Suno put out yesterday or the day before. at the end of the month, anything you have put into Suno becomes their intellectual property, or something of that nature. It's something you should look into.

First of all , do you play an instrument? Because if you don't, you will probably not understand anything I tell you.
You can take most any song that has ever been written, use the same chords and words a hundred different ways. It does not change the song. Also, it really isn't possible to enforce copyrights on the musical parts of a song(too many are almost exactly the same), only the lyrical portion is realistically enforceable The lyrics are the song. I play the guitar for the upload and it uses my basic chord progression and melody with some tweeks.

They can't claim something that is already copyrighted
Now, if you use SUNO to create a song, that is probably a different matter and probably fair.
If you look at the 2nd link I posted you will see that it is listed as a cover of my uploaded song.

A couple, but not well.

This is what I was wanting to know. So you record the guitar parts and upload it, then are prompting it with the lyrics and other instructions?
On the songs you posted, your original guitar parts that you recorded aren't in there, right?
I'm mainly just curious because I have several songs that I might play around with in this app.

Yes, they are both the same song. The first link I posted is a real studio demo that I did. That's what I uploaded.
I can give you a link to the same song on Soundcloud if you want. It was posted there about 1 year ago.

I listened to them about 20 minutes ago, only got halfway through each because it's not my cup of tea, but here's a compliment- it's stuck in my head now. That's got to count for something!
