Absolutely! One of the greatest bands of all time, along with Boston, Styx, Rush, and Phish.

Would you really put rush and styx top 10? They're good don't get me wrong buy I feel like together I only know of about 8 songs between the 2 bands.

Ha, no.

My brother and I refer to that type of music as butt rock.

Oh definitely! And I just heard they are planning to go out on tour together, but they can't decide whether to call themselves Rux or Stysh

Man, the 2112/A Farewell To Kings/Hemispheres/Permanent Waves/Moving Pictures Rush blows these others away IMHO. They were so tight as a unit and jammed like all hell in this period. Don't mean to take away from the above bands, I guess it's all about what you prefer.

Without question. Steve Perry is one of the greatest singers of all time as well.

Yes, they were great as a progressive band and great as a pop/rock band. Oh, and "Faithfully" inspired "Purple Rain" so there's that.

Top 10 absolutely. You can definitely make a case for that.

The 1970s had:

The Eagles
The Rolling Stones
Rush
Aerosmith
AC/DC
Queen
The Who
Pink Floyd
Genesis
Black Sabbath
Judas Priest
Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Fleetwood Mac

That's not counting the following solo artists with backing bands:

Elton John
Neil Young
David Bowie
Bob Dylan
Van Morrison
Stevie Wonder
Jackson Browne

Unequivocally, they are not one of the top 10 bands of the '70s.

Honestly, you could make a much stronger argument for the '80s because music was becoming so fragmented with the emergence of so many new genres and budding subgenres within rock. There was a lot of crap that sold really well during the '80s. However, some people, not necessarily me, would make the argument that the majority of the new wave and indie bands (Pixies, The Smiths, The Cure) were better than Journey.

I loved Journey growing up and still do but I have heard their music for so long now that I have grown tired of it. Every now and then the nostalgia bug hits and I just crank it up but most of the time I just switch to another station when Journey comes on. They were a huge part of my growing up years so I will always have a soft spot in my heart for them. But to the poster and his brother who lump Rush into the same category as Journey...damn you to hell.

Journey is dead to me.

I've heard the same half dozen songs one too many times.

Agreed. They have been played to death on the radio.
