'woke up this morning
put on my slippers
walked in the kitchen and died

and oh, what a feeling
as my soul went through the celing
and on up into Heaven I did ride"

RIP JP. I cannot say how many of your songs I have played over the decades. They never ceased to bring a (legal) smile to my face.

Imagine if Bob Dylan and Jimmy Buffet had a love child.

One of the greatest storyteller songwriter ever.

Inspired many bands from many genres.

Dammit. Hate to hear this. I saw the last update from his family and it didn't sound good, but was really hoping he would pull through. We just lost one of the best original American songwriters we've ever seen.

I passed up his Austin show. Was gonna go by myself. “Catch him next time”. Dumbass me.

Same with Chris Cornell solo show.

What a gut punch last night.

Brought my "Great Days" anthology to work after lunch and rocked John Prine all afternoon.

Agreed. This is a bad example. Take out Jimmy, who do you put in there?

This thread and Prine's death just bums me the frick out. I want something inane like this comparison to make it better.

Dylan and Willie Nelson? Gordon Lightfoot?

Early jimmy Buffett was legit. You can hate on the boomer bullshite he marketed later but he has a handful of classic country-ish albums.

Tin Cup Chalice
Captain and the Kid
Ballad of Spider John
He Went to Paris

All great fricking songs

A true legend. So under rated. He will be missed but never forgotten.

Anyone else attend one of his House of Blues shows in New Orleans back in December 2009? He was so damn good. Iris Dement opened and sang with him.

First time I ever saw or heard of him must of been around 1970 or 71. He was on the Johnny Cash Show and sang Paradise. I was blown away. Been a huge fan ever since. The man was a true songwriting genius. The way he could spin just a few words and create a visual picture in your head was unmatched. Willie and Kris might come close, but they didn't inject the humor like Prine did. A little part of America just died also.

He wrote stories more than songs. Used the word “story” and “characters” in a few interviews I saw. Like a novelist or short story author.

A little? Don't lie. I'm sitting at my desk hoping nobody walks into my office right now.

I've listened to this song on Spotify a few times, but seeing the video brings a whole new level of pain to it. This is very strong.
