I see we have similar taste. And to your point about him with pop music, he knows he has to have a few hits to sell the records. Close-minded people can't seem to look past it thought. It's not like a Katy Perry pop song, they at least have substance.

John Mayer can play guitar, there is no denying it. I think pop music has gotten a bad wrap in the last 10-15 years cause of the shitty bands. He even admitted as his career grew he was able to ignore any pressure he got from record companies for songs like your body is a wonderland.

I've got J.M. on my ipod,ok I admit it. His tracks are well constructed and Jordan and Paladino are just killin on it. On Contimuum he actually began to open his mouth and f#%king sing,but the majority of his lyrics and that whisper thing wear me the hell out-and when he tries to convince me on the blues well...

That's only one album. He has a few well written songs, but the majority sound like songs he wrote specifically to get laid

I've never understood the hate JM gets....He is a killer guitar player....And has consistenly become a better singer & songwriter..
He has played the music business at thier own game...He has always been able to blur the lines of his own music & mix it with radio friendly pop
Its actually pretty genius if you ask me....He knows he can make a shite ton of money doing stuff like having Taylor Swift sing background vocals for 10 seconds on a track, and appease the record label & teeny bopper fans, but have the rest of his record be what he wants.
People who do not like his stuff to me are pretty musically ignorant...I mean he has some of the best musicians in the world playing on his records (Pino & Steve Jordan) and as his backing band on the road...Your everyday POS no talent pop star doesn't have all of these admired musicians wanting to work with them...

I've seen over 300 different bands live. Nothing he does is that impressive to me. Maybe because I think he's too mainstream, maybe just because he's a douche. I just know that his repetitive sound doesn't satisfy my complex taste in music. He focuses more on his image than his music. He is talented, but so are thousands of other musicians, most don't care about their fame, instead they care about playing the music that comes straight from their soul. Not all musicians sell out, IMO he has.
