I've seen over 300 different bands live. Nothing he does is that impressive to me. Maybe because I think he's too mainstream, maybe just because he's a douche. I just know that his repetitive sound doesn't satisfy my complex taste in music. He focuses more on his image than his music. He is talented, but so are thousands of other musicians, most don't care about their fame, instead they care about playing the music that comes straight from their soul. Not all musicians sell out, IMO he has.

His music won't be remembered for anything in a few years
i recall people saying he was a flash in the pan after room with squares. he hasn't lost much steam.
he's shown he able to keep a huge following by writing songs that are guitar driven & catchy hooks.
the guy knows how to write songs that people enjoy.
quote:do you consider john mayer trio radio rock? it's more blues than top 40. it did very well.
Radio rock is dead and John Mayer sank with that ship years and years ago.

I was just listening to previews of the songs on his newest album that's about to come out. I don't know how many of them other than Shadow Days are gonna be radio hits, bc it seems like the album is really folksy. With that being said, 'Walt Grace's Submarine Test' and 'Born and Raised' will probably be two songs I really like mainly bc I'm a sucker for acoustic guitars and harmonicas.

Gained a little more respect for the guy recently. He jumped on stage at The Cowboy Bar here last week and played a couple songs with the local band. Pretty cool, just played and didn't sing: LINK

Just because he can play guitar doesn't come close to making him the best overall artist of this generation. He is a king douchebag (my dick is racist comments among other things). If you would like to bet on if this guy will be remembered I am all for it. Coming from someone who idolizes the likes of Hendrix and SRV, I know a talented musician when I see one. Just because he makes radio friendly songs to help the record sale doesn't make him any less of a talented artist. Clapton did the same. And to the guy who said all of his stuff sounds the same; every one of his albums sound different from the other. I mean, this is just awful.

Cool! I have seen lots of videos where he just shows up somewhere and starts playing. For awile he was livestreaming on ustream and would just play whatever the fans in chat would request.

If you have some time watch his berklee clinic LINK there are several parts. This gave me a lot better idea of him. I think hes what 95% percent of people would be if they could. he sells out makes bank get with any girl he wants and still get to play some legite music. he says he wrote a some of those songs to sell albums and he did a good job of it

I agree to an extent. I don't think he is a sell out, I think he understands that he needs a track or two to make the album go and make money. He does so, yet keeps the pop song very much him. This clip, and the rest, very good stuff. Also, when it comes to him with a bunch of celeb women, you can tell he has grown since. He is tired of the media, keeping an image, done. I'm expecting all of his albums from now on to stray away from the bull.

Well good! Didn't John Mayer go to Berkley School of music? Or did he drop out?

Berklee claims that he is from their class of 1998. so there's that.
