agreed. which is why i think it might be cool to see a few more of those grouped on an album and see what he comes up with.

im not saying flip it upside down forever, but looking at it as a career and not just an album, it could be a fun addition to his catalogue (having more uptempo options would help the live show not lean on the same 2-3 songs to fill that role too) and help keep things fresh for him as a new challenge.

just a thinking out loud comment

I disagree, mainly because I think his slow depressing songs are his best

For example: Cover Me Up, Elephant and Relatively Easy are my favorite songs of his. Super 8 should've never been on that album, it actually throws off the vibe. Doesn't come to close to fitting and it stops that album from being a 10/10 IMO. Something More than Free had a better flow to it, though not as good with stand alone tracks.

As far as concerts go, yea them jamming out is cool. But give me those depressing songs

Completely agree.

Awesome show last night. Great set list and the sound was studio quality.

Sound quality in the Joy is great. Can't say it's visually impressive. Feels like a movie theater just got a coat of read paint.

From the angle I'd say whoever filmed that was just to the left of me. Great show and my first time seeing him, work was hard Monday morning but I'm glad I went.

We were right there too, probably right behind him .

That cat is good man.... acoustics seemed really good in there as well. What amazed me was how quiet it would get during the low parts/breaks in the songs. You could tell people were there to listen to the music and enjoy it.

Kinda wish Shires would've been there b/c he would've played some other songs I'd assume, but that's just me being selfish about some songs I enjoy.

I'd love to hear them sing Mutineer live but I'll have to settle for the Letterman clip I guess.

My big gripe of the night is that it turned into a sing along on the floor.

I don't get why people sing at the top of their lungs. How do you hear the artist? Pretty minor annoyance, but on night two I just wanted to hear Isbell.

Forkin idiots behind me wouldn't stop talking; was especially annoying during Moreland's set.

Moreland's set had a lot of loud talk coming from the bar area. The talking combined with Moreland's coughing fits watered down what could have been a real special set.

Regardless, I'm happy to have discovered the guy and have added him to my regular rotation. He is a very strong song writer (assuming he writes his own songs).

As for the Joy, I was very impressed with the acoustics and very indifferent with the interior. It felt sterile and lacked any charm. It reminded me of a generic movie theater from 90's television shows.

A coworker did mentioned that it used to be a grimy run down movie theater so I am happy it has at least turned into a very serviceable musical venue for the city. Now if they could just get that damn Loews theater back in working order then that stretch of Canal will be fully refurbished.

Moreland does write his own songs; he's a monster lyricist in my opinion. He will have a new album coming out in the spring, too. You should listen to his record "In The Throes." It's incredible.

I'm not holding my breathe for that to happen. If it ever comes back, I doubt it's as a theater. Just too much competition now with Saenger and Joy on the same block, as well as Orpheum, Civic and Mahalia Jackson.

that whole area is going theatre district and has a TON of new hotels going in. Plus all the condos. You are going to see the area truly become both a destination for visitors and have high residential occupancy to support it too.

i dont know where the tipping point will be, but with the new canopy, jung, troubador, 2 marriot products, NOPSI, etc.... all in progress within a couple blocks.... that area is changing fast which might change peoples perceptions of what can be supported.
