Tool is my favorite band of all time and their music has literally changed me. Im excited for the new album to be released and I love following along on Adam Jones’ instagram.

All that said, I don’t really care when it comes out and I don’t really care if it’s any good or not. I wouldn’t even call this apathy, it’s more like I don’t NEED anything more from them, their current catalog is enough for me.

I hope and suspect it will be great but if it’s not, that’s ok. And if it doesn’t come out until 2025, that’s ok too.

That’s it

Agreed. One of my favorite quotes from Adam Jones is it's not good when it's done. It's done when it's good.

They take so much pride in what they do, and they want to put out the best they can. They push themselves. You can see the progression in composition, and while 10k days isn't my favorite, it is the most musically complex. I'm looking forward to whatever they offer.

They're my favorite band of the last 20 years or so, for sure, and I'm with you on all but the apathy. I am apathetic at this point. They're the music version of George R. R. Martin - they seem so interested (well, that's not fair, this is directed mainly at Maynard) in everything but (new) Tool music and reviews from their tours have been trending down, so there isn't much to get excited about either way.

But, overall - you're right - just Undertow, Aenima and Lateralus - that's a good run if they had done nothing else.

If I had to pick 5 albums for the rest of my life these 3 would probably be in there

Was kind of meh about 10,000 Days but have been anxiously waiting for a new album.

Initially I was "meh" on 10,000 Days, too. It gets better over time, particularly Vicarious, Jambi, The Pot and Right in Two. It just doesn't have the highs (Aenima) or consistency (Undertow, Lateralus) of the other 3 Tool LPs. Right in Two is a wholly underrated gem.

New Tool album features all songs over 10 minutes in length

This also tells me it has to be a double album, it can't just be 6-7 songs

Easily my favorite song off that album.

I don't like 10,000 days that much because of the long droning songs with hardly no structure as far as an actual "song" goes imo.

It worries me a bit that at the Tool clinic they say that Maynard used to be more a part of the music portion of arrangements and on 10,000 days and ever since then, they don't change the structure for him and he just fits his lyrics in their music.

10,000 days is good, but some of the songs are just not tradional IMO.

Oh yeah Right in Two is legit. I also really like Rosetta Stoned once you get past the first 4 minutes or so.

Salival and Opiate are incredible. Their version of No Quarter is one of the best things I've ever heard.

ETA: I have no idea if this is true, but the lyrics do suggest it might be. 4° is about the difference in temperature of the vagina and bhole? Could be that's common knowledge and I just didn't know

It's a good not great record. Many of their cords and progressions felt rehashed from previous work. When they did get more experimental it was good, but it didn't strike the mark for me.

Right In Two is spectacular, and 10,000 days is the most powerful song in their entire catalog. Not necessarily their best (although it's up there for me), but the most powerful. Gorgeous progressions and heartfelt lyrics/vocals. It's their Stairway to Heaven in my opinion.

I still think that's the title track from Lateralus for Tool, with all due respect. I think it's the best "heavy" song of the past 30 (maybe 40) years.

There used to be a bunch of assholes that lived in this part of the building but we systematically removed them like you would any termite or roach.

This, just because of the technical feat that song has in it (the Fibonacci sequence in every layer and musician)

It's funny because Maynard this year called forcing the Fibonacci sequence into the song like he did was akin to a dick joke and he wouldnt have done it if he could have it back

Right in Two is a mind blowing song. I also love everything else people have mentioned from 10,000 Days.

I’m convinced the relationship between Maynard and the band is completely fractured at this point. I also don’t think any of them care and will keep doing what they’re doing, especially the band. Maynard’s interview on the Joe Rogan Experience really convinced me of this.
