It’s too bad the Beatles didn't use Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields for Sgt Peppers

It’s a great album but side 2 drags trying to make it to A Day in the Life. Cut “When I’m Sixty-Four” for Penny Lane and “Good Morning Good Morning” for Strawberry Fields Forever and you have the perfect album.

They recorded both songs for the album but decided to use them as singles instead.

Works for me.

Naah.

Ignore the barnyard sound effects and listen to the song sometime. Lyrically it's one of Lennon's most underrated.

Going to work don't want to go feeling low down
Heading for home you start to roam then you're in town
Everybody knows there's nothing doing
Everything is closed it's like a ruin
Everyone you see is half asleep
And you're on your own you're in the street

People make fun of Ringo but I just did a hit and his drums on Strawberry Fields blew my mind.

If I'm swapping out songs to make the perfect Beatles album, I skip Sgt Peppers and go to Abbey Road

Swap out "Come Together" for "Two of Us" on side 1 and "Sun King" for "Across the Universe" on side 2, let Lennon do the vocals for "Oh! Darling", then throw the rest of Let It Be in the trash bin or let everyone release it solo.

I’m not swapping Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever for no reason. Those two were recorded to be on Sgt Peppers.

Well yeah, and my proposal would be to scrap the failed Get Back sessions, minus the aforementioned two. Let It Be should never have existed as an album IMO.

They started recording Abbey Road 3 weeks later, it's not a huge stretch to say the material belongs together. Ultimately Paul was more committed to the Abbey Road sessions and dominates an album that should have been a testament to the shared history and divergent visions of Lennon-McCartney.

At the absolute best it is the Beatles 4th best album. I'll take Abbey Road, Revolver, and the White Album all over it.

I prefer to think of Pepper as a failed concept album and PL/SFF as the first and greatest concept single.

Agree with the firs proposition but keep Good Morning, Good Morning AND add Strawberry Fields.

Whoa. Sun king? That makes the medley. The medley is all about changing pace every so often.

The song that I always skipped over was "Within You Without You". I thought the rest of side two was perfect. That sitar stuff got on my nerves.

Speaking of Ringo's better efforts and swapping out songs. I'd put Rain on Revolver (8 out of 8 days a week).

I actually enjoy Magical Mystery Tour a bit more to than SPLHCB.

I always thought Maxwell's Silver Hammer should have been left off of Abbey Road.

All Things Must Pass would have been a nice addition in place of it, As would have Gimme Some Truth.
