But, they aren't.

I just disagree with this. Especially when I think about the first time I heard Kid A and how many emotions I felt.

Baloo, I love your take on music.

Not saying your right or I am wrong... I just think you are overstating this part about the heart. Cause I do disagree with that portion. To each his own

I've listened to a few of these, and while pretty good, I personally don't think that run compares. To each his own.

Name them.

Hey, I don't claim my opinion is definitive. Well, except for the fact Radiohead is just a modern day prog band (the stuff about hating prog is just me). I do stand by that Yes is far and away the best prog band ever because A) their rhythm section can actually swing and B) Steve Howe is a great guitarist.

I should have added, that this is at least honest criticism and not just Radiohead sucks (add further expletives here)...

I would go with Pink Floyd, unless we don't classify them as prog rock. While Yes, I always liked some stuff, but never really got into it.

I just find Radiohead to be so British art/prep school music. It's like a Wes Anderson movie, just way too impressed with how clever it is, yet lacking any real emotional punch. (I hate Wes Anderson, too). It's not like I don't like cerebral art. Hell, I'm pretty damn nerdy. I love cerebral art. But Radiohead is nothing but the head. You need the heart, too.

I'm not a Wes Anderson fan either, and I do agree there is a kinda vibe about Radiohead, especially from some fans about how clever and hip it is (or was). I think at least their earlier( The Bends-Kid A) stuff has some heart, but maybe that's just because i like it. Kid A is great, but they did seem have this air after that about how innovative they are because they do something different for it's own sake.

me too.

Geddy Lee says,

quote:

“For me, you look at a band like Radiohead, who I am always impressed with, I think they’re enormously talented. To me, they’re a progressive rock band. You don’t have to sound a particular way to be a progressive rock band, and that’s my view on it. We are a hard rock band, we are a progressive rock band, but our roots are in hard rock more than they are in ELP or something like that. It’s different strokes for different folks. Radiohead are a kind of progressive alt band I guess, but the key is that they’re trying to bring other things into their music, and that’s what a progressive band does, tries to expand what they are by adding other influences without too much prerequisite.”
Well damn...then what's the point?

I do largely agree with this. I like The Bends a lot more than their subsequent efforts, which seems to be studies in navel gazing. Kid A is probably their last album I at least like, though I'd hesitate to call it great.

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder, does he talk like an ordinary guy?

I've met him, and he does.

Like I said, just because YOU don't enjoy it, doesn't mean that other people don't.

Which is a fair opinion to have, but the problem is that 75% of Radiohead fans will tell you you don't enjoy it because you don't "get it." It's also relevant for the discussion of whether Radiohead is even a notable band all time, much less the best band of all time.

I think it was a catchall for non blues based rock groups and non punk groups.

I know I'm in the minority, but I think Amnesiac is their best album. So haunting and dark, but in a good way. It sounds like something Pink Floyd might have done if they had came out 30 years later

It had some great songs on it for sure. I really like Pyramid Song and Like Spinning Plates especially.
