Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself. Mankind. Basically, it's made up of two separate words---'mank' and 'ind'. What do these words mean It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

So, your vote is for etymology, instead. Got it.

this trumps any form of music, but I don't think you would understand since you're a complete philistine.

I think the word "gaudy" was invented specifically for the Taj Mahal.

I sure do wish Louis Armstrong was still alive and entertaining.

Writing is our greatest art form.

Music might be second.

This.

The written word is by far mans greatest art form with music second and film coming in a very close third.

At least for me anyway. Those three convey more emotion to the reader/viewer/listener than a painting or drawing ever will.

Now if you want to break it down further I believe that the list goes

1)poetry
2)fiction
3) classical music
4) film
5) all other music that strives for artistry and creativity
6) all other forms of writing

Film.
200 years from now if you want to understand our culture you will watch Scorcese and Coppola et al. And of course, music is an absolutely essential aspect of any worthy film.

Can't have a film without a script. Starts with the written word.

Visual art/painting is mankind's greatest art form. It was also mankind's first art form:

I had assumed we meant besides written word.
Will happily concede the point.
The greatest art form of any era is the written word.
The greatest new art form of our modern era is FILM.
It ties together the written, music, visual etc...

Not true. We were making beats when we were cavemen.
