This is partly why he is so popular. He comes across as genuine and just a good dude on all of the podcasts he's been on.

Word on the street in Nashville is it’s all an act. He preaches overcoming addiction but apparently still partakes often and is an arse.

Not saying it’s true. Just what I’ve heard.

He sucked at the RNRHOF. Couldn't hit the notes on the song he was singing.

I don't think he has ever claimed to be sober. He says he still drinks and smokes weed and that his issue was with cocaine.

"[However], out of an abundance of respect for the people who really got off the drugs completely -- and the alcohol and the weed -- I don't necessarily claim to be a part of the program," he added. "Because I respect their work and I would never want to diminish it with some of my actions, but AA has done a lot for me."

I'd bet on Swift playing more instruments better than Jelly Roll! I'm not a fan of her music but she's still a talented musician.

Overcoming and/or battling addiction is one reason he is popular. I have heard restaurant managers say this is the reason he is popular. Apparently there are a lot of recovering addicts that work in the restaurant industry and say that he is inspirational to them, showing them you can get clean and make something of your life.

He sold out Simmons Bank Arena in North Little Rock the other night. Not my kind of music, but he also went by the Pulaski County Detention Center while in town and visited with inmates, which I appreciate.
He also played a couple of venues in Little Rock a few times before he 'made it'. One is next door to Gus's Fried Chicken, which he ate at when he was in town.
This trip he spent about $20,000 dollars (including tips for the workers) buying everybody's meals there the day of his show.
Like I said, I'm not much into his music, but I gained a little respect for the man after these events.

I've honestly never heard anyone claim he had talent.
