Ideas to "document" concerts my son has been to.

Due to my wife's job, we get to go to a lot of concerts for free. We take our 3 year old with us to 80% of them. He likes to go watch "rock n roll"
. We throw on a pair of ear muffs and he usually jams out while half paying attention. At 3, he's already been to ~13 shows and seen about 30 different bands. Since we get in free, we don't always have actual ticket stubs. We were going to build a little scrap book until we realized that little fact. I'm not wasting money on memorabilia for every single one of those shows either. Trying to think of something neat. He's already got a pick from the Foo Fighters, so that's a start for a cool keepsake.

honestly what would be more meaningful is to write/record a little note before/after each event explaining what you were doing that day, where you took him to eat, pics you made at the concert, what was he wearning, what happened at the show..etc.
then put that into a document of some sort for him to enjoy later in life. if i was a kid i'd care more about that later in life than the actual ticket stub or something from the show itself. you're providing context and a little record of his life he might never remember otherwise.

If you can write worth a shite, make a blog about it. Take pics, write a little note, share it out. You might even attract people who are entertained by it. Then he'll be able to look back on it and think it's cool (or weird) when he can read.
If you have the money, most concerts have a merch table. T-shirts will always be guaranteed. I like posters for shows, but those can sometimes be hit and miss at the merch table. I also hate standing in line at merch tables.

I think a journal with a photo of you guys from the show with a short, hand-written note would be a future prized possession of your little guy.

THere's obviously this, but I don't want to spend the money. Half the shows we go to just because we have nothing better to do. For instance, I'm not wasting my money to buy the kid a Tesla shirt
We should have pictures from most, if not all. I have just never been one to remotely remember to pull my camera out during something like that....(except for last night when Dennis Rodman randomly came out on stage and sang part of Lightning Crashes with Live....talk about a WTF moment). So the shows where it's just me and him and the wife is working, I need to start remembering.
I'm terrible at writing about something like that, but I'll give it a shot......or get my wife to do it.

then just take his pic next to one of the shirts on display.

I mean hilarious selfies with the little dude help up over the crowd or in front of the marquee or with some hard core fans of the band dressed in shirts for the band would be awesome. Something that clearly indicates the show that he's at.

Man I hate that there a fewer ticket stubs these days. I have a photo book with all of my ticket stubs in it and it just looks crappy to put in the printed ticket.

Well, that's one of the more random concert occurrences I've ever heard.

If there are concert posters at the venue take a picture of the kid next to the poster.

That's a good idea. One of my wife's jobs is to make the marketing graphics for the "non-band" shows (orchestra and other non profit events). Live Nation covers the actual concerts they promote, but she may have access to the stuff and we can make the graphic a page in a book with pictures and any other mementos.

Make a blog like others suggested. Give it to him when he graduates. He will love it.

I have two bulletin boards that have almost all of my concert and sporting event stubs in chronological order. If it's a show nowadays where there are more paper or scan tickets, I make a copy and print them off in the size of a normal ticket stub. They hang in my office and people love looking at them.

Or take the kids picture with the theater marquee in the background.
"Tonight Only..." in letters or lights.
