I don't get why people like male country music singers

Out of 800 songs on my iPod there are maybe 10 that have female singers.
I'm pretty much the opposite. In my mind, there are few male singers/vocalists who have a unique enough voice to do to a song what a woman can do (Colin Hay is one example). I love the female voice.
Someone mentioned Alison Krauss earlier. While she is kind of shoehorned into the country genre, she is far from a traditional country artist. She is more bluegrass/traditional/American roots music oriented.
Oh, and BTW, there is not a living person who has more Grammy awards than Alison Krauss. She, at the tender age of 41, has 27 Grammies.

Lucinda Williams is blues-y.
Neko Case and Emmylou Harris are more Bluegrass-y Mountain Music and Folksy kinda style. Allison Krauss goes in this category as well.

Very true, but that kinda falls under the country mantra for the most part. She's a talent and love listening to her. She's got such a soft voice, but in her own way is so powerful with it.

All the artist i mentioned are probably not going to be heard on country radio, but all of them have roots in country music...
I forgot Gillian Welch

Most advertisers want to reach female audiences
there are some exceptions, but that's the general rule

Honestly, I could do without female singers period

When I think female country singers, I think Wynonna, Bonnie Raitt, and Dolly.
None of this pop-country shite they play on the radio.
As for me, I think of Patty Loveless & Allison Krauss and because I’m old, I think even more of Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette & Emmylou Harris. I remember when Dolly was on the Porter Wagoner Show.
I love me some Bonnie Raitt, but I don’t consider her country...more blues and rock.

I never have. You can say I'm a countr music connoisseur, but I never got in to any of them. Not even the legends.

I'll add Margo Timmins to your list but that said I really don't care much for mainstream country.

That doesn't make sense to me. If the music is good why would you care what gender the singer is?
And Patsy Cline did Crazy better than Willie.

Thinking about my CD collection/Ipod, the only female country/alt-country singers in it are as follows:
Lucinda Williams
Kasey Chambers
Allison Krauss
Dixie Chicks
Lee Ann Womack
Patsy Cline

But Willie has the right to sing it...he did write it.
