Huge day in new music for me: New Mastodon, Dinosaur Jr., and Son Volt records out...

Three of some of my favorite bands...
The new Mastodon record, Marrow Deep, is the first post-Brent Hinds (RIP) record. It's really good. Their hardest record in quite a while. On first couple listens, like a good middle ground between Leviathan and Crack The Skye.
New Dinosaur Jr. record, There Near, is really good too. Much better than the lest record produced by Kurt Vile. I'm a big Kurt Vile fan but found their last record that he produced to be kind of boring. Stand out track for me right now is "No Friends." Classic Dinosaur Jr. sound with a great guitar solo etc.
The new Son Volt record Sound Signal Serenades is their best release out of the last several... It's a return to form, FINALLY, to their earlier more rocking alt-country/Americana rock sound. Classic Son Volt. The single they released Serenade Song is a good representation of the record. Glad Farrar, who I think is one of the best singer/song writers this country has ever produced, is back to form.

The Afghan Whigs dropped a new album, Soft Control, August 21.
