I love the Hag! One of my all-time favorite country artists, definitely in the Top 5 of most influential country artists. I actually have been listening to him a good bit lately, I've had "Fightin' Side of Me" stuck in my head today lol.
I enjoy singing, and I've always found that I enjoy singing his songs the most. The only genre I can really sing along to well is country, and Merle's songs have always been some of my favorites to sing.
One of the last remaining real country musicians, the Hag is a reminder of the era of pure country music that had soul and had a story to tell. To me, a lot of country music after the year 2000 is forgettable, pop-influenced stuff that just doesn't do it for me. Now, there are some exceptions of course, but a lot of country music today just does not stand up to the legendary stuff that Hank Williams, Hag, George Jones, Buck Owens, Patsy Cline, David Allan Coe, etc. gave us. Now, those are some huge shoes to fill, but country music these days is so commercialized and stereotyped, it makes you wonder if we'll ever have a legitimate legend again that is a pure country artist. I find the most real country artist these days is Brad Paisley, he seems to be the most traditional and he sticks to his roots.
So with all that said, I love Merle Haggard and I hope he continues giving us awesome, REAL country music to enjoy!!

19and83 I worked a.summer drafting for.an.architect. he wasn't in the office much but had a boom box with a bunch of cassette tapes. I wore out that Merle Haggard greatest hits tape.
