I was thinking the same thing. That song was absolute shite. I even listened to that Eric Church song "Like Jesus Does"...boy am I sorry I did that. What a terrible song.

If any Eric Church song should be mentioned in this thread, it should be "Springsteen" which is similar because it is also a tribute to a musician from the past. I have a million times more respect for EC than Aldean because he actually writes the majority of his music. In fact, he is at least mentioned as a co-writer of every song on his latest album except for one, "Like Jesus Does" and that one does nothing for me....in fact i just don't like it at all. I think "Springsteen" is a pretty good track though, at least for today's standards.

Just listened and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Still completely lame. Also learned the phrase "laundry list country" which was a bonus.

i'll back you up on that. he's probably my favorite popular country musician not named gary allan. before you crucify modern day gary allan, smoke rings in the dark is a goddamned masterpiece of an album
i much prefer the outlaw/ texas/ red dirt/ alt country/ whateverthefrickelseyouwanttocallit to the mainstream
That's a fair assessment. Gary Allan is a really good artist. I also like his older stuff. I'm more of a fan of the late 80s and 90s stuff. Probably because that is the era I grew up in. But to say like some others do on this board, that every single song by every artist mainstream today is complete crap is ridiculous.

Oh right, because I didn't

True. Pledge of Allegiance to the Hag is similar in that regard. Again, not the best song I've ever heard but clearly in a different class than anything Jason Aldean.

I wish I had a DVR on my brain so I could go back and not watch/experience what I just did when I looked this song up on youtube..... my God what is 'country' coming too.....

The Jason Aldean song is trash as is everything he has ever did. Springsteen by Eric Church is a good song certainly much better than anything else being played on country radio today. However I thought Church's earlier albums were better. Sinners like me was a great song.

It's not really country. It's this hybrid of pop and violins.
Nashville Pop.

Sinners Like Me, Lightning, and These Boots are my personal favorites.

"Like Jesus Does" is not that bad and "Springsteen" is well crafted. Like someone else said, EC writes a large number of his songs and that gets more sway with me.
As for Aldean's "1994", just an awful song. Same ilk as Luke Bryan's stuff - "drip of honey on the moneymaker, mmm, mmm." While we all like the moneymaker, the song is not literary genius.

The Truth is a pretty solid song.
And it's "he has ever done". Present perfect.

Around the 30 second mark or so I had to turn it off after I just listened to it for the first time. Awful, awful song. Honestly though, I think I may hate "flyover states" more. In fact, I do..I do hate it more.

I just wish one of these country singers would sing about their old small town homes and roots and just being a good ole country boy. You rarely hear that anymore

This review is dead on, well written and absolutely freaking hilarious! Here are a few tidbits:
Yes it is. I didn't even know the song existed ( I wish I still didn't). I haven't listened to country music since I discover spotify

I'm a self-proclaimed country music snob (Nashville's shite, TX/red dirt is amazing)and I will go on the record as a fan of "Springsteen".
I can't help it. I dig that song.

Agreed. Some people seem to enjoy being miserable

agreed. I respect EC because he atleast helps write his songs and you really tell it. I use to respect Tim McGraw because he is a family friend but Truck yeah made me lose all respect for him.
