The Zune couldn't play gapless reliably (none of Microsoft's offerings can, hardware or software), and the software was slow and had numerous other shortcomings. After three years or so, from original Zune all the way to Zune HD, I switched from Zune to iPod and iTunes, and it was a huge improvement across the board with my large collection.

I wish a great non-Apple option was available because I fricking despise iTunes.
i installed the free transcopy app and i can drag music files back and forth to my 2 kids' ipods just like any USB drive without any problems whatsoever. EVER.

been using it for years and years.
no itunes or apple shite will grace my PC ever.

My 5th gen iPod is on its last leg and I am not going with one of the new touchscreen iPhone Jrs. I may go with the 160GB classic, but I have had so much trouble with their headphone jacks that I'm kind of skeptical. I really just want it to use with the aux input on my car, but I do expect to buy a new car with bluetooth support soon. Decisions, decisions.

I have a Mac.
I'm sure there are programs I could install that would play my music instead of iTunes, but then I fear that doing so might disrupt the spacetime continuum and send us all spiraling into a wormhole destined for the planet Marklar.

could you just use a hard drive in your car and skip the mp3 player all together?

Does this mean I can stop avoiding the iPhone because of the music issue? Sure would be nice to have a dockable phone for once.
