Best thing about GC... not feeling bad about not buying something.

Best thing about a mom and pop store... feeling good about even a small purchase.

Of course I'm coming from the acoustic side and we still have a couple great stores in town. Kind of places you can walk in and say Herb or Bob put some electricity to this thing. And we they ask what kind, you just say do it, that's why I came in here. Where you can walk in and they already know the answer. And I'm always suspicious of big box store counter help and the profit margin. And while they may have it in stock. You'll probably not get it back sooner, than the little guy who might of had to order something less popular. Plus I like to know who's working on my guitar and get that he's a good mechanic feel.

And yes, I guess I also helped kill my neighborhood store, with the Reverb and even cheaper string stores.

want to know where these pawn shops are that have good vintage guitars at competitive prices. All of the pawn shops I have ever visited had nothing but pure crap guitars at crazy prices no informed customer would ever pay.

The PNW. I made about 10k flipping gear I found at pawn shops. I found some especially amazing rack gear in pawn shops in the PNW.

I sometimes also use a 58 with the 57 when I double mic a cab. Sometimes that blend captures what i need.. But yeah, those two mics are all I use when recording guitar.

Well, If you need to make new lifelong friends, walk in there and buy some strings or picks.

Sweetwater is a great company with fantastic customer service. They’re probably the best online retailer for new music equipment right now, plus they offer financing. Ebay has the best selection and prices of used pedals. GC is decent online for used instruments and amps. Amazon is actually kind of mediocre for music stuff except for affordable chinese knockoffs of dubious quality (some are actually pretty good, some are complete crap).

its the customer service, I know my sales guy on a first name basis. I know what him and his family look like. I shouldn't, no one should.. but I do.

I use sweetwater a lot for software these days and they are an overall great company. I also use Ebay and Reverb a lot.

I like reverb a little more because its just for music. Sellers generally know what they have, you can make offers, and I've even traded. Also has a search your area function that I love, as local pickup sometimes knocks the price way down.

Pretty sure the Nashville Gibson plant is still open. I got a full plant tour a few years back by a maintenance manager that my coworker set up. I'm sure my coworker would have said something since his cousin works there.

Yeh, idk, when I was younger my grandparents in Tenn would take me to that mall and I would literally stay there all day looking at all the guitars but I thought my grandparents mentioned the store part closed or something, but then again they are 95 so who knows. I hope the plant and store are both still open.

Gibson Nashville is still open, they closed the Memphis plant and its store. I'm pretty sure they still have the acoustic factory in Bozeman, MT, as well.

Don’t see the appeal of going to a mall every time I need strings with crazy markup.

Dude, the prices weren't that bad. Especially strings.

Most of my memories with GC was in BR while in college. It was pretty cool to be able to jam on some high end acoustic guitars in that little acoustic room, then plug some headphones into one of the Roland kits and jam on the drums. Good times.

The shop you're thinking of in Vidalia is Easterling's. There was a Zeagler's in Monroe but I don't think it's open anymore. I ran into Fred Z. at NAMM in January and he told me unless someone hires him as a consultant or a mystery shopper, he's out of music retail.

Easterling's! That is it. What's crazy is that Easterling's is still open. I almost ordered a custom Yamaha kit from that place.

All Monroe has is Matt's Music now and West Monroe has Delta Legends Guitar Shop.

Where else can I go in BR to check out some guitars and get some strings, picks, etc? GC is way out of the way for me and I prefer local.
Is Tim's just for repair or parts?

C&M is my local store of choice but they don't have the BR store anymore and usually when I go to New Orleans I don't have time to stop by there.

yeh I've been to Easterling's once or twice when I was younger as I grew up not too far from Vidalia but haven't been inside in a while although I pass it frequently and it looks to still be open but I haven't been paying much attention to it. There is a decent guitar store in Alex as well called Red River Music. There is/was a Nugent Music in Pineville but haven't been in a long time. Matt's Music in Monroe was awesome last time I stopped in there.

The only local store left is BR Music Exchange, and they don’t always have a great selection of strings. I’m also not sure how things are there since covid.

Monroe

Had a bandmate who had taken lessons at Matt's music there in the very early 90s.

First went into his store in the early 90s. Cool dude. Go there if you’re in Monroe.
