Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Kurt Cobain, Eddie Vedder among others.

Go back and listen to some of their unplugged stuff. Fantastic vocal ability.

I disagree. I think they're widely viewed as great.

Is STP grunge? Weiland is easily better than all of them except Cornell.

Layne Staley was my favorite. Stone Temple Pilots were slightly less pop than a band like The Spin Doctors.

Grunge isn't a real genre. Every band that falls under that label comes from Seattle and hates the term. Might as well just call them Seattle bands from the 90s.

Scott Weiland is criminally underrated as a frontman; he's my pick as best of the lot of singers discussed here. Dude had impressive pipes plus the charisma and flamboyance of David Bowie, to boot. He always looked cool and stylish and had great stage presence, too. He was a far better dancer than Cobain, Cornell or Vedder; there's no arguing that.

Have you heard his side project, Gutter Twins, with Greg Gulli?

Weiland was the best frontman too. Even in the Velvet Revolver days, he was amazing live.

no he wasnt. He got where he was at because people liked his melodies and sound.

And it's not like he had to try hard. Bet youd have the same successful levels and admiration using just power chords.

I assumed he was saying as I did. I think Staley was a better singer, Weilend was by far the best frontman. His charisma was off the charts.

Staley was actually pretty damn good at being a frontman and entertaining the crowd early on. You can find some great AIC concerts on Youtube, whether it be the full concert or just certain songs. Layne had it. But over time, you only start to remember him completely strung out and half dead on stage, but still with the golden voice.

The knock against grunge vocalists wasn’t that they sucked, it’s that they all sounded the same and turned everything into an “a” sound. That criticism mainly we to Eddie Veddar and Scott Stahp

Agree to disagree. Shitty singer, shitty guitar player, shitty lyricist. He's revered because he was young and suck started a shotgun. The mumbling Jim Morrison of his time and just as talentless.
