Not sure what your issue is. Math rock has been a thing since the late 80s.

This is really not bad. I've listened to about the whole of their songs on their spotify.

From wikipedia:
Math rock is a style of indie rock that emerged in the late 1980s in the United States, influenced by progressive rock bands such as King Crimson and 20th-century minimal music composers such as Steve Reich. Math rock is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), counterpoint, odd time signatures, angular melodies, and extended, often dissonant, chords. It bears similarities to post-rock.

This rules. Reminds of The Mercury Program in the best way possible.

Nothing to be ashamed of. I've heard of it but never listened because I'm not much of a metal-head. Only reason I had heard of it is that it was mentioned in some music theory videos that I watched.

You aren't the only one. Who's your favorite Southern math rock band of the 1990's?

The music reminds me of early Minus the Bear.

The album Tweez by Slint was recorded in 1987 and released in 1989.
