Good guitarists who don’t seek the spotlight

Mike Campbell comes to mind as a guitarist who seemed more interested in making good music than stroking his ego. Del Amitri’s Iain Harvey is another player who gets no publicity, but delivers great licks and solos consistently.Who else?

John Frusciante has kinda been a recluse since 2008, making music mostly for himself. Can’t wait for to hear new RHCP with him.

I wish like hell Vito Bratta would seek the damned spotlight!

Mick Mars. Top 5 all time underrated guitarist.

Elliot Easton.
"“It’s important to know your abilities and it’s also important to know your limitations. I think they both define who you are as a person and an artist or whatever.
“To be completely honest about it, I’ve always found for myself that I really shine in a supportive role. I enjoy it more, I’ve never really sought out to be center stage, that’s not necessarily my thing, but what I love to do is to take a piece of music or be part of creating a piece of music and give it that lift that sends it over the top, whether it’s those solos that people seem to like from Cars records or whatever it may be.
“I think that’s my little gift, just being able to come up with hooks and solos and cool parts and take a great song and make it into a great record, which are two different things, really.” — Huffpost interview, August, 2014"

Ultimate recluse virtuoso. It's ashamed that alot of people think all he does is shred mindlessly. His catologue spans a large amount of genres and styles.

Mac McAnnaly. Pretty good song writer also.

Adam Jones. I don't think I've ever seen him do a video interview.

Mick Taylor always seemed to stand where he stood on stage and played his notes. He never stepped to the front or moved around - just played. Richards would occasionally get irritated at him noodling on the '73 Euro tour but MT was the best guitarist the Stones ever had.

Good call on James Honerman Scott
I'd add Lawrence Juber from Wings. He's the best acoustic player I've ever seen or heard.

I'm glad I saw them with Ozzy in '89.
