I thought I was in remission for GBS but it was rekindled by the sight of a 1983 Gibson Explorer at a pawn shop today. $974 after tax later and being sick never felt/sounded so good. Plugged her right into the Marshall Lead 12 I got in my office and let her rip. Can’t wait to take it home and put it on the JCM800 in the garage You ever had a GBS attack you couldn’t resist?

Went through that phase hard a couple of years ago. Only thing that ended up happening was I spent a lot of money and found myself continually dissatisfied. I spent more time over analyzing gear and tone than I did playing.

Best thing that happened to me was getting burnt out on it and selling off most of my stuff. Kept the essentials and now I’m happier just playing with what I’ve got. My wallet and my brain also hurt less

The correct term is GAS (Guitar Acquisition Syndrome).

FIFY. Guitarists are not the only musicians affected by this disease.

That's a damned FACT! It also extends to other hobbies - probably all of them.

I only want one more guitar (yeah sure...) and it's one I'll put together myself out of Warmoth parts (or something similar). But that's not to say that there aren't a bunch of pedals I'm interested in.

If any of you ever get interested in guns, you'll see this syndrome play out all over again.

I don’t get that with guitars so much as with pedals. In the last year, I’ve sunk more money into my guitars and pedals than nearly the rest of my life combined. It’s almost hard to believe how completely different my setup and tone is now compared to what it was a year ago. Pretty much the only thing that stayed the same was my amp, tuner, wah pedal, and the neck pickup on my blue LP.

The guitar I couldn’t stop myself from buying was an old 70’s LP knockoff I found at an estate sale for $160. I completed renovated it (new neck pickup, new pots, new wiring, new tuners) and it’s beautiful. I’m still down on myself for dropping it on concrete and ruining the pristine finish in one spot

All i need is a BOSS HM2, noise gate and an original Ibanez TS808 anymore.

Pedals are fun to have In a studio though.

Recently in fact. I've always wanted to get another Jackson guitar for as long as I can remember. Jackson was my first guitar and I just remembered it being fun as hell to play. A few weeks ago I stumbled upon the SL2Q model in Winterstorm white in a browser ad. I kept thinking about it until I couldn't resist anymore and ended up pulling the trigger.

I never claimed that I did. I don’t care much for it, tbh. I’ve always been more partial to power metal like Iron Maiden rather than death metal of the Scandinavian varieties.

I’m not a fan of that guitar tone or vocal style. I enjoy the drums and riffs, but the overall sum of its parts isn’t really my thing.

I’ve always been a major tone snob in what I listen to. I’m happy to finally have the equipment to be snobby about the tones I actually produce.

What do you mic your cabs with? And what speakers are in the ones you use to record the lionshare?

DI toneprint of my exact settings on all of my amps and pedals. It allows me to sound virtually identical live and in studio.

Those are badass sounding instruments, good Jacksons. Played around with a similar model and never felt a Floyd Rose that would move so seemingly effortlessly but was steady as all hell and would never throw a string out of tune on a divebomb. fricking awesome instrument man, glad you got one.

It is man, gives a real bright crunch on the neck pickups. The strings were kinda old but after some zoom oil and a good stretch out and retune it sounds hot. Very Kill ‘Em All/Show No Mercy tone. Granted I’m mainly a Marshall slut so if I didn’t get that tone something would be very wrong.

My GAS affected my pedal setup for a while there too, I went from a single Digitech RP-350 to...

- a Big Muff Pi reproduction from like 1997, older brother gave it to me

- a Boss RC-1 loop pedal

- Way Huge Saffron Squeeze compressor (didn’t like it on my guitar setup but hot damn does it work with the bass)

Not too much going there but I get my distortion + reverb from the amp itself, no need to fix what ain’t broke. One thing I always wanted and will conceivably never obtain is a real vintage tape delay. Wouldn’t sound any different than a digital delay pedal but I’d feel like Ritchie Blackmore anyways

Big muff will likely be my next pedal purchase. A friend of mine has an older full sized one that he said he’d sell me when he finally invests in one of those newer smaller ones that will free up room on his board.

My next guitar will either be a telecaster with a tremolo or a 12 string.
