Swapping out the PUPS on a semi hollow body ES style guitar.

I’d like to buy a used Agile. Then upgrade pick ups down the line.

No way am I DIY ing through F-Holes. Just labor cost of the job in general.

Man, at some point, if you're not willing to do stuff yourself, you're going to have to find a local guy. Considering where you live, there is somebody there. You just have to find them.
This is why you get out there and hit the small shops and bullshite with people. Make friends with the old guys and you'll always be at the front of the line.

Let's just say, I could do your swap for $100.00 labor, it's also going to cost you at least $150.00 for shipping back and forth. You can do better than that if you have friends close by.

$176 labor after tax on my bench for just the electronics work if there are no surprises or funny business going on.

"Upgrading" an ES platform is more than just nicer pickups. It's also nicer pots and caps that allow the pickups to be an upgrade, and a more durable jack and toggle while you are inside. The goal is to not go back in there for at least a decade. What I just described should cost no less than $400 when it's all said and done.

I'll also add truly upgrading a used Agile ES makes zero sense financially unless it a jewel of an example that you love and plan to play forever.

FYI, I'll remind you, I have clients who frequently drive in from the Houston area and even further frequently. We plan their trip in and their job well in advance. I make the necessary concessions to do their work that day or in the short window while they are in town, to save them the time and $$$ of a return trip and/or shipping fees.

You’re full of bad news. Lol.

It’s nothing I love. Just a model for literally about “”tree-fiddy”

I thought it would be like my Agile 3010 (LP style). It came with Slash humbuckers. It’s great for what I paid. I know one is solid Vs semi hollow.

I just draw the line at paying for a “real” Gibson ES.

If I am spending north of 3000 I’ll probably go acoustic.

If you refer to me as a voice of experience, reason and common sense versus "bad news," I'll feel better about offering my insight.

My solution when I was in a similar situation: I have an Asian-made D'Angelico Premier SS I bought brand new for just under a grand that unmodified runs head to head production Gibson ES guitars. I spent about what you will spend on a clean used Agile and what would be considered legit upgrades.

Here's a clean used one for under $500 ... BRAND NEW Premier SS in champagne on Reverb. This is a Ferrari on a Kia budget IMHO.

Mine ...

Nah. I just thought I had beat “the system”.

You know “i only spent 700 bucks and I have something as good as most Gibsons!” With the exception of custom shop and actual vintage of course.

You beat guitar center one time for a good acoustic and you get cocky.

Yeah. That’s only 100 bucks more than what I am looking at. And you’re saying what you have and what you linked have the same pick ups, which are good enough for you to not upgrade?

Should be like PAFs comparatively for my ability.

No, what I said was that a Premier SS without upgrades would hang with a Gibson. All of my personal guitars have upgraded pickups. Because I make pickups for a living.

My Premier SS's stock pickups were Duncan Designed HBs, Asian made clones of Santa Barbara USA products. Good solid pickups, but not as good as Carondelet pickups.

I don't know if they have changed specs in more recent years. You can research that.

Lol.

Oh yeah. There is that. Guess you don’t shop the Seymour Duncan and BareKnuckle sites.

I think I will focus on one thing at a time. Probably best to stick with the Strat that I actually own if I want to upgrade something. Loaded pickguards etc. I can solder 2 joints. Bad as I am at soldering, I can make the ground and output Jack stick.

Thanks for the advice.

One day I HAVE to bring one to you for a setup.
