Im nervous as shite and think about flaking. Any tips or word of encouragement are much appreciated.

Update: it went way better than I expected. It took me a couple songs to dial in my sound then it was smooth sailing. For about 6 songs in the middle of the set everything was feeling perfect. If if did make a mistake I just played right through it. Noticed alot of things I can work on too. Overall a great experience.

I have played guitar most of my life but this will be my first time singing in public. Good at singing? No but I have always wanted to do it and had to start at some point.

Do you ever sit down with your buddies or your family and just have fun with the guitar ? If so, draw on those experiences. Hey , it's just a bunch of folks sitting around drinking beer and having a good time. Also, be sure to select songs you are really comfortable with. And make sure your guitar is TUNED CORRECTLY !

Enjoy yourself and everyone else will also.

Depends on the venue. Setlist is everything. You can be complete shite and if you get the crowd into it and play fun stuff they won’t give a crap how your voice is.

Like a coffee shop? Good luck

Tourist bar with shots going around? Setlist can make or break you.

Standard bar with live music- mix of both.

Listen to recordings of yourself and get critique from other better musicians, they should be helpful and have constructive criticism.

Good luck. I play 3-4 nights a week but I’m a piano player at a fun tourist bar so we have a massive set list. If you give me an idea of what you sound like and what type of venue maybe I can give some ideas?

What songs are in your set list?

Its a mexican restaurant. I have seen people play here and most of the time nobody is paying attention. My set list is about 35 songs. I have 3 hours. Most of the songs I sing well are sad and depressing so I am out of my comfort zone with the uppity stuff. Thanks for all the tips!

Nobody will notice if you screw up a chord change or two. Just be cool and act like you’re having fun. And bring a capo in case your nerves raise your voice.

Sounds like people are there just to eat and drink and have fun.

You’ll be fine, crowd pleasers and a lot of talking between songs is crucial. Talk to individual people and poke fun at guys who look like they can take it. Then when everyone laughs ask that guy what he wants to hear or something. Have fun with it. Honestly if you’re having fun then so will they. If they aren’t paying attention then you’re probably doing a good job. Try and accommodate any requests, or try and play a song in the same vein as what they request if you don’t know it. Best just to ask for an artist they’d like to hear, since individual songs are way harder to know. Anyways good luck, can’t go wrong with zak brown or something just to be the background ‘away along’ ambiance for a while.

If you jack up, for the love of all things good, don't stop. Also, don't drink too much booze.

Quit now. You’ve already accomplished so much. Time to relax and think back fondly of your music career

Sounds like a good low-pressure spot to start. I've always thought that farmers markets are perfect for beginners. People stroll around and shop. I've watched and noticed that sometimes not one person is stopped and watching the musician.

Have fun!
