Discussion: harder to come out in country or rap?
Posted on 7/6/13 at 8:32 pm to TheDoc
They're very liberal with their usage of the word "star".

K.D. Lang had a couple good songs, and a hit with Constant Craving. Then she came out and disappeared for the most part on country music stations.

Definitely easier in country to come out.
Unless we are considering the likes of Drake as a rapper, which I am not.
Acceptance in the true rap community as being gay would be VERY difficult. In the country community all the women would support and probably 30% of the men would .

Hate to be that guy, but both radio versions are awful; you're too tied up in that.
Even better- who walks out alive:
Jay Electronica vs. Ryan Bingham

if it's darius rucker then country music and nashville will be sucked into some kind of alternate universe portal that only krang from teenage mutant ninja turtles could successfully navigate.

A couple years ago in Nashville I knew a kid (17) that sang & wrote at an unreal level, and it was good country. Attended his showcase at a pretty famous producer's place where there were a&r label types crammed wall to wall to sign the young man. 6 months later he came out o' ye closet and was promptly dropped like a radioactive potato.
Maybe it's different now, we'll see. This kid had to tell you to know, but looking at that first dude's narcissistic photo spread-sexual orientation aside, he seems terrible without hearing a note.
Oh, Terry Clark was also openly lebanese, fwiw.
