Good thread. Turned me on to some artists I've not explored yet (Billy Stings, Molly Tuttle, Tony Rice)

I'm still a big fan of Sarah Jarosz and the collaboration with Sara Watkins and Aoife O'Donovan (I'm With Her).
Speaking of Sara Watkins, really miss Nickle Creek. I think Chris Thile is one of the most talented artists around, in any genre. His work with Nickle Creek, Punch Brothers, solo and Yo-Yo Ma is all awesome.

Other "bluegrass" artists i think are pretty solid are: Wailin Jennys, Flatt Lonesome, Alison Krauss, Mandolin Orange, Sierra Hull, Crooked Still, Infamous Stringdusters...among others.

Alot of "modern" bluegrass out there that's keeping the music genre alive and well.

Something old - you know this old veteran bluegrass songwriter - he's got decades of good music - plays alot with Sam Bush, Tim O'Brian, and David Grier

Darrell Scott "River Take Me"
Darrell Scott - You'll never leave Harlan alive
Darrell Scott ~ Jesus was a Capricorn

And a little newer - Brittany Haas - she's gold on anything

Dry and Dusty - at a fiddle camp
Cumberland Gap - David Rawlings Machine - one side project

Hawktail - "Annbjørg" - Her band

Great stuff so far guys. I'm lovin the rec's too, nice to have a Louisiana perspective.

The seminal classic....Foggy Mountain Breakdown with Earl Scruggs, but with an all star backing band:

In that case you might like seeing little Sarah Jarosz from 2005.

Anyone else like these guys ?

The Travelin’ McCourys "Cumberland Blues"

Took a hour long workshop at a festival with Cody Kilby (here on guitar) along with Roland (Clarence's Brother)White on mandolin. There was only about 9-10 of us and they made it look so easy.. nice guys... and basically for free.

Nice one - they were that next step for Peter Rowan and David Grisman, who'd been in 'Muleskinner'. BTW: That was one of first songs I was taught to in a group setting.

One epitome from the "Old and In The Way' band I always loved. Was when Vassar was asked, what it was like to play with long haired hippies, and he quipped I judge them by what's in their hearts, not the length of their hair.

Muleskinner Blues:

Bill Monroe (original)
Muleskinner (version)
Tony Rice · Vassar Clements · Jerry Douglas · Todd Phillips · Sam Bush · Bela Fleck (version)

Quite possibly my favorite music group altogether. Saw them Feb 29th at the Caverns in Eastern Tennessee.....right before the pandemic cancelled all concerts.
