Any fans here of the Rob Halford solo project that yielded two great albums in the mid-90s?
He basically took his Priest voice and added real heavy metal as the backing act.
1st album favorite cut - Little Crazy
2nd album cut - Legacy of Hate

I remember when he released his solo stuff and found it just ok. He was trying to tap into the industrial sound, but he just didn't quite get it. It coincided with his coming out as gay, and he was trying to redefine his image a bit. I need to revisit it, and maybe I'll like it a bit more now after years have passed.
Side note: Painkiller is not only the best JP record ever made; it's in the conversation of best metal record of all time. That record is legendary.

Into the Pit is one of the most underrated & underplayed Metal songs of all time. Scott Travis is a beast on drums.

That was a different project called Two. They weren't very good. Fight was awesome.

Painkiller is not only the best JP record ever made
quote:I can see why you say this, but the first album is pristinely produced with great songs. The second album was grittier with a lot different production, but still great songs. Blowout in the Radio Room was a mild MTV/radio hit.

Ah yes. That is correct. I'm confusing projects

Rob Halford, pre-"Satchel" Russ Parrish, and Scott Travis = A+++++.
I'll take that first Fight album over all but maybe two records in Priest's entire catalog.

It might be the heaviest production I've ever heard. It's just brutally hard, but still entirely accessible.

I only became aware of JP as a kid during the '80s. I didn't realize the band reached back to the early '70s. I was never a major fan, but this thread is making want to explore the JP catalog--especially after sampling a couple of tracks from their first two albums.

Jeez, you can't get much more real heavy metal than the Priest!

And The Ripper is from 1976.
Both of those are incredible.

Now, Painkiller...THAT is metal.

TWO is an interesting project.
John 5 on guitar and Ray Riendau, who also played with Machines of Loving Grace, on bass.
Definitely worth a listen...
