They are both considered one hit wonder's although that is not Blind Melon's best song by far.

I love the wonder here more than the hit. The band has many more much better songs than this one.

Blind Melon I could sort of see
Grateful dead however? No.
Touch of Grey, Truckin and Casey Jones all still get considerable amounts of airplay.

Never was a big Greatful Dead fan so I guess I can't really speak for them.

Does not equal hit. Truckin peaked at 64. Casey Jones didn't even enter the Top 100.
I get what your saying. They're technically 'one hit', but probably not what the OP meant.

Exactly, an actual hit is typically not what people are referring to when they say one hit wonder? One hit wonder is generally a band that is only known for one particular song. Chumbawumba and Vanilla Ice are one hit wonders. I think Blind melon and Grateful Dead transcend that name.
but what is a hit? A top 100? a Top 50? Top 10?
Because Truckin reached number 64 on the billboard charts
Grateful Dead was listed at number 57 in Rolling Stones top 100 artists for fricks sake. Thats not a one hit wonder

I thought the Top 40 was usually the standard, but it's open to interpretation. Here's what wiki says:
"In the U.S., a "pure" one-hit wonder is an artist that manages only one song on the Billboard Hot 100, regardless of the song's peak position. However, most American music industry insiders consider a song in the top forty positions of the Billboard Hot 100 to be a hit."

In the same category as grateful dead and blind melon. FNM had a good career and are viewed as one of the best alternative bands of the 90s.
