"Updated Cover of We Didn't Start the Fire" was the original name of the first track on From Under the Cork Tree back when Fall Out Boy were actually clever

The events aren’t in (essentially) chronological order. It’s just stuff that’s happened since 1989 that kinda rhymes. The brilliance of Joel’s version is the events are on a timeline AND kinda rhyme. There are a few clever lines here, but like a lot of things that copy from the past, it misses the essence of the original. It’s just simulacrum.

I definitely see it’s flaws, but it’s a guilty pleasure song for me.

I’ve listened to this “cover” a couple of times and yeah it’s pure shite. Being out of chronological order and favoring recent references takes me out of it. At best, it’s the ADHD chain of events cause it’s all over. Plus, it’s Fall Out Boy vs. Billy fricking Joel.
