My HS football and baseball coach was the Warehouse concert promoter

Jimmy "Coach" Armstrong

Those who played at Johnny Brite playground in Metairie during the 70's and 80's probably know coach

Did you make that ticket stub poster?

My mother gifted me a framed copy of it for Christmas a year or two ago. It's hanging up in my hallway.

I was born in '87 so obviously I have no connection to the Warehouse, but I'm a huge fan of the many bands that came through and played there.

I saw the original Allman Brothers Band, before 2 deaths, on New Years Eve when a Freshman/Soph in college. I can't remember if '70 or '71. It was about 4 hours long, just like Live at the Fillmore album. Was great.

No we've never met, but I do recognized him from his
interview in the video documentary "A Warehouse On Tchoupitoulas"

Very cool. That website isn't working well on my iPhone though.

Saw Frampton and the B52s there. Opening act for the B52s started with an acapella rendition of Over The Rainbow. Crowd went crazy and started throwing stuff at him....and he kept singing! Good times.

Hey, blackstrat1, what's the story on why The Warehouse permanently closed in '82?

Gambit did a 40th anniversary writeup a while back. Tidbit - Susan Spicer (of Bayona fame) got free admission for being on the streat team putting out flyers. But all good things must end apparently - unfortunately the Warehouse was a little before my time.

quote:

Eventually, with a little more than 12 years of wear and tear and competition from newly opened venues like the University of New Orleans Lakefront Arena, the State Palace Theater and the Municipal Auditorium, the Warehouse closed its doors. The 1970s were over, and The Warehouse's era had ended. As if to illustrate a changing of the musical guard, the post-New Wave group Talking Heads performed The Warehouse's last show in September 1982.

I see. That makes sense. Thanks.

That ticket poster is impressive...

Always heard growing up about the The Warehouse in NOLA. Looks like a dump though? How many people did it hold?
