Bruce Springsteen - I Want You
I just posted this in another covers thread, but I suppose it fits better here.

As I wrote there:

I'd known for a long time that BS had done "I Want You" in concert, but had never heard his version.

What's fascinating is that this isn't only a great cover -- it's completely opposite what you'd expect from Springsteen. Instead of bar band R&B it's a baroque slice of Left Bankesque folk-pop c. 1966. I wonder what Bob's reaction was after hearing it: "Man, I shoulda done it that way!"

Sam Cooke - Blowin' in the Wind
I should've remembered this one too. One of the GOAT TV performances.

According to his manager, Cooke said "a black man should have written that song". It would inspire him to write "A Change Is Gonna Come".

Good stuff, definitely adding- just not a big fan of Garcia’s voice but appreciate the band.
I was going for more obscure covers not just the Byrds, the Band and the Dead.

Dylan has always said that on an overall basis Jerry has been the best at covering his songs. Pretty sure Hendrix's version of Watchtower is his single favorite cover of one of his songs but for the genre as a whole he has always preferred Jerry/Dead covers.

When it comes to Dylan songs, IMO, there are no better versions than your own. Find the part that welds you to the song and do your own arrangement.

I believe he has also he likes the Dead's Memphis Blues better than his own. He always had trouble with the odd time signatures, which Bobby thrives on.

JGB Simple Twist of Fate is the fricking superb.

Any cover is better than a Dylan original. He's a terrible singer.

Damn, that is awesome. I wish there was a little more percussion, but he nailed that song.
Levon Helm would have been perfect.
