Pavement's homage song to REM.

quote:

Some bands I like to name check,
And one of them is REM,
Classic songs with a long history
Southern boys just like you and me.
R - E - M
Flashback to 1983,
Chronic Town was their first EP
Later on came Reckoning
Finster's art, and titles to match:
South Central Rain, Don't Go Back To Rockville, Harbourcoat, Pretty Persuasion, You were born to be a camera,
Time After Time was my least favourite song, Time After Time was my least favourite song.

And on a hill there stands Sherman
Sherman and his mates.
And they're marching through Georgia,
we're marching through Georgia,
we're marching through Georgia
G-G-G-G-Georgia
They're marching through Georgia,
we're marching through Georgia,
marching through Georgia
G-G-G-G-Georgia
and there stands REM

One of my favorite Pavement songs, which I referenced in my post above yours, and someone downvoted because they don't know it.

I didn't catch your reference either. I just scanned it quickly.

True story: I was at a party back in '84 and this song was playing while everybody was drinking Beast and getting sloshed. There were a couple of Hank Jr. fan types there and they had been playing some country music on and off. I proclaimed that "Rockville" was a better country song than anything they had played. Subsequently got into actual fisticuffs with them over it.

Afterward we shook hands and kept on drinking. Just another teenage night.
