Derek Trucks @ the Joy Theater - New Orleans this Saturday

This one has been marked on my calendar for months. Derek Trucks is easily one of the current greatest guitarists and the closest thing to Duane Allman my generation will ever get to see. Stoked! This will also be at the famed and newly reopened Joy Theater.

No chance of seeing George or Ivan with Trucks this Saturday, they're both on the road.
Might as well just go in there with Trucks on the brain. Which ain't no consolation prize.

Good call. If I was going to the Ole Miss game I'd definitely go to the George show.
Has Derek been here since Mardi Gras 2008? Can't believe that was the last time I saw him. He also played Jazz Fest 2007. Both shows were da bomb

Before he surrendered his nuts to Susan, the Derek Trucks Band played a show at HOB or Tips (real drunken Gras for me) for Lundi Gras 2009. If you ask my friends they'll tell you the whole crowd was on the same acids. Everybody was just locked in on this dude shredding.
And of course he's been here with the ABB at the Fest....2010 when they followed up the Levon Helm Band on a Sunday (my best day at Jazz Fest ever), Trucks had to sit the whole show because he had broken his foot playing basketball the week before. Didn't impede his beast one bit....dude and Warren had the whole crowd bent over backwards during a dreams>whipping post to close out their set --then came out to hit One Way Out....it was HEAVY HEAVY ROCK AND ROLL...the kind of shite your parents tried to warn you about.

Yes they were. I'm sure the Joy will be badass Saturday.
I was at Bear Creek festy in 09..... Lettuce was playing, it was decent, but it got to be tequila time so I was walking out of the woods, headed for the tent. Heard someone on a mic say "ladies and gentleman, we'd like to bring up friend of the band----Mr. Derek Trucks." Needless to say an about face was performed and I got to see him shred with Lettuce for 3-4 songs....can't say I've ever been disappointed any time I've seen him play.
CSB: A friend of mine saw him play one saturday night at Bogies (or whatever it was called) when he was only 16. Soon as he was done he had to bounce out since he was underage. Probably like 3 years later the dude was joining the ABB on stage

Love some Trucks!
When my dad was battling cancer, he was staying with me, and I was going to see Derek one night at the HOB here in Houston. Gary Clark Jr opened the show...dad wanted to go, so I got him a ticket, and although frail and weak, he stayed for the entire show, which was a great one....that was his last concert

I've seen the Brothers a bunch of times and I never saw them play better than that JF set. That truly was something special.
I'm glad to see that Derek is still playing with his band. Don't get me wrong, I love TTB but his band playing his songs is something else entirely.

Setlists are much better with DTB.Tons of good Allman/Derek and the Dominos and other random covers.

You might be surprised. Their recent setlists all have 2 or 3 really good covers. Lots of ABB too. Mountain Jam is a regular. Dickey Betts played several shows with them in September.
