I don't think I would I classify Tame Impala's latest album as rock. It is great though and their prior two were more rock orientated.

I waited 3 pages for somebody else to mention them

eta- Currents might not qualify as rock but Tame Impala's first two albums and debut EP definitely rock

U2 is pretty solid still - "Every Breaking Wave" should take home a Grammy for best song IMO.

I'm pretty sure they're on a break, not broken up.

There's plenty of good rock being made today, as this thread attests. However, what rock is reaping is the misguided strategy of continually propping up the Baby Boomers as the only true rock bands, and defining the genre as such. Well, those bands are dead or dying, and young kids understandably want something of their own. This is the end game for trashing every trend in rock for not genuflecting properly to the Beatles (and I like the Beatles).

The 60s were a half century ago. It's unrealistic to expect kids to relate to the pop culture of that era. Hell, it's unreasonable to expect them to relate to the 80s/90s punk era.

This is essentially a monster of Rolling Stone's creation.

I've seen skillet and red many times. Yeah, they are great in concert and have been doing pretty well on Billboard every cd. Yeah,Christian artists are pretty big in rock now. Skillet, red, pod, thousand foot krutch, flyleaf, and a bunch of metal/screamo

Very true. Bands like the Stones and Zeppelin are my parents' generation. I've never had an attachment to them and don't care if they're considered the best ever. I grew up with Metallica and Nirvana. That's my classic rock. Everything newer comes from there.

RHCP
Muse
Coldplay

Have fallen off with their recent albums. Drones it's pretty meh besides 2 songs and ghost stories is the gayest shite I've ever heard.
