Harper Valley PTA was a hit in 1968. That year had a lot of cross over hits. "Skip a Rope" by Henson Cargill and "Honey" by Bobby Goldsboro were both top 40 and county hits. On the easy listening side you had "Love is Blue" by Paul Mauriat and "This Guys in Love With You" by Herb Alpert. Both were cross over hits in 68. Fun fact, "Love is Blue" was number 1 on Top 40 and Easy Listening charts and reached number 2 on the R&B charts. (I left out R&B cross overs because there are too many)
The 60s were the best decade for radio, IMO. You could hear the Doors, Herb Alpert, Glen Campbell, Sam and Dave, and even a french dude playing the harpsichord all back to back. Its no wonder my musical taste are so varied.
