Leo Moracchioli kills Stay and his Zombie cover kicks arse all day. His metal covers made my workout playlist.

Meh.....it's contrived dying johnny trying to maximize his families inhertence. Or I should say, the Johnny corporation trying to maximize their last chance at profits. They gave him lyric sheet and said sing johnny sing

Dwight Yoakum's covers of Buck Owen's songs.

Mostly just because of modern recording equipment.

I went back and listened to the covers and a couple different versions of these songs recorded by Buck Owens and the answer is yes.
I Prefer the sounds of modern technology (its like music to my ears).

Also, while I don't really like but a couple of Dwight Yoakam songs, I can listen to the "Dwight sings Buck" album form start to finish almost daily if I chose to. His voice fits the music better than Mr. Owens did.
That again may just be due to modern recording equipment.

While I basically agree with you, here's one that sounds fine as it is.

Woodstock Crosby, Stills and Nash

I've always liked it better than the original by Joni Mitchell

Someone in the comments said it sounds like a Monkees song and it sure does.

I would say rather than the equipment it's the choice of instruments.

The Streets of Bakersfield sounds a thousand times better with Dwight's choice of mandolin, fiddle and accordian over Buck's steel guitar and piano. Dwight gives it a much punchier, Tex-Mex feel that's clearly superior sonically.

Buck
Dwight

I found him on YT a few months back, His duet of Sultans of Swing is really good. No way better than the original but worth a listen

"SOB" is far from my favorite BO track. I think the tempo is too fast, giving it a bouncy flavor that is at odds with the lyrics.

However I do prefer the relative sparseness of the BO arrangement to the busy-ness of DY's.

BO is a much better singer than DY.

We'll disagree on the arrangement, but I'm with you on Buck as the superior singer.

Buck with Don on harmony was fantastic.
