You honestly think this is better than the Young Rascals' version?

In my opinion, yes.

Every song that Linda Ronstadt ever recorded was a cover, and most of them, especially the ones in her country rock years, were at least as good as the originals, if not better.

Superchunk covered Sebadoh & Magnetic Fields and, in my opinion, improved on them...

Have you actually heard the original of "Long Long Time"? Who did it?

While I like some of Ronstadt's early country-rock and the later tin pan alley standards from her chanteuse period, her rock covers were generally pretty bad. Her Elvis Costello remakes were especially awful.

I remember I hated the song "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" b/c Ronstadt's was first version I ever heard. It sounded wrong even when I was unfamiliar with the original. Only after I heard Warren Zevon sing it did I like the song.

Long, Long Time may be one of those Ronstadt songs that she recorded the original version of. Not sure about that. I probably jumped to calling all her stuff covers, because she was not a songwriter.

But her covers in those early years of Dylan, Cash, Randy Newman, Mickey Newbury, Jimmy Cliff, Neil Young, and many, many others are classics in their own right, even if the originals are classics too. Plus, she was so hot back in those days.....

Her version of Tumbling Dice may not be "better" than the stones version but, It's every bit as good IMO.

Picture yourself as a prison inmate watching this performance at Tennessee State Prison. Cruel and unusual punishment for sure.

Deadicated is my favorite Cover album. every song on there was done great.

Bertha - Los Lobos
Jack Straw - Bruce Hornsby & The Range
U.S. Blues - Harshed Mellows
Ship of Fools - Elvis Costello
China Doll - Suzanne Vega
Cassidy - Suzanne Vega
Truckin' - Dwight Yoakam
Casey Jones - Warren Zevon / David Lindley
Uncle John's Band - Indigo Girls
Friend of the Devil - Lyle Lovett
To Lay Me Down - Cowboy Junkies
Wharf Rat - Midnight Oil
Estimated Prophet - Burning Spear
Deal - Dr. John
Ripple - Jane's Addiction

Midnight Oil and Cowboy Junkies get the nod for the best ones IMO.

I really like Los Lobo's version of Bertha... pretty straight forward... It's become a staple in their live show... Awesome band!
