It pisses me off when some people list him with the old country greats. He was essentially the Jason Aldeen of the 70's/80's. Such a cheesy motherfricker.

Seriously, to mention Conway Twitty and Jason Aldean in the same breath should be grounds for being horse-whipped.

Well the term "panty dropper" comes to mind.....
I saw Conway at the Cajundome for the Living Legends tour. He had every women in the place thinking he was singing to only her.
Truly a legend and gone too soon!

I'm sure Aldeen is a "panty dropper" to women at his concerts in 2014.
I acknowledge that he had more talent in his pinky finger than Aldeen all together (Twitty had a great voice).
I guess I like country singers who look like they could actually ride a bull, do manual labor, or look like they could kick my arse. Twitty just looked like some church singer with a jewfro. And his (stage) name seemed contrived, like he's trying to be too country.

Ties to a post of mine in the other country thread. There are a lot of styles of country. Similar to rock ranging from metal to soft rock. I like rock, I don't particularly care for either of those styles.
I like honky tonk, outlaw and cowboy country. Sounds like you are more of an outlaw or tougher cowboy country guy.

While I would categorize Twitty with other pop country artists of that time, like Rogers, Campbell, and Denver, he was still really damn good.
Easily a top 20 country singer of all-time.

I wouldn't go as far as Jason Alsean, but a lot of his shite was cheesy. He has some great country stuff that is overshadowed by the cheesy shite.

I saw Randy Travis open for Conway in '88. Conway kicked his arse all over the place. I liked Conway and his cover of Rainy Night in Georgia with Sam Moore..... good stuff

I would put Conway in the same category as Ronnie Milsap.. Good mainstream pop country and massive number of hits.
Is he as legendary as Strait, Haggard, Jones et al? To the purist probably not.
