What are some of yours?

Some of mine are:

Dio Sabbath is the best Sabbath. Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules destroy anything Ozzy did with them .

Metallica AJFA is the best of the first 4 albums.

Judas Priest Defenders of the Fatih is better than SFV

Def Leppard's best album is High and Dry

Stryper's first two albums are great rocking albums

Iron Maiden's best album is SSOASS

Highway to Hell is better than Back in Black

70's Scorpions are so much better than 80's Scorpions even though I like both.

Uriah Heep is as good as Deep Purple

Slayer's First album "Show No Mercy" is their best album and the only album they have decent solos on. (Reign in Blood is overrated)

Machine Head is Deep Purple's fourth best album behind Fireball, Burn and In Rock

Rainbow's first three albums destroy any Deep Purple album as a whole.

Cinderella -- Night Songs is one of the best albums of the 80's and transcends hair metal and should be taken more seriously.

Just off the top of my head.

I'd rather listen to 80's rap/hip hop over any hair metal bands from the 80's

Mine: As with any genre of music there is good and bad within the typical "hair metal" scope. The bad stuff is atrocious and it is almost exclusively the more well-known bands and songs. I predicted years ago that the most awful stuff would end up defining it and it will be always be seen as crap because of that. That has pretty much come true. It's a damn shame because the better bands of that style gave amazingly great live shows and effected audiences in a way that has pretty much gone extinct.

-Reb Beach is the GOAT hair metal guitarist.

-Winger is a very good band and doesn't deserve the hate it received.

-Testament is a better thrash band than Anthrax.

-Black Sabbath has some of the worst album covers of all time.

-Led Zeppelin's last two albums are a snoozer.

-Operation Mindcrime is a top 3 metal album of the 80s.

Nothing controversial about that. Hair metal was shite.

Plenty of people think Justice was Metallica's greatest artistic achievement. That's certainly how it was treated when it was released. People loved that album like crazy.

Heck, Steve Harris's favorite album was Seventh Son. That was an amazing tour as well.

I think it's pretty obvious that one decade of AC/DC was pretty darn special compared to all the others.

You sure you didn't mean to say Long Cold Winter, as opposed to Night Songs? Not that NS is bad at all, of course.

Back for the Attack by Dokken is a really excellent album.

I agree but I knew it would draw downvotes. Let me give you your only upvote.

It's awesome. So many great riffs.

+Judas Priest shouldn't be in the same discussion as Maiden and Sabbath as the best all-time metal bands.

+The guitar solo in 'Don't Tell Me You Love Me' is one of the best guitar solos of the eighties.

+Riot's 'Fire Down Under' was the best hard rock album of the early 80's.

+I can solo better than Mick Mars, and I don't play guitar.

Speaking of AJFA, I'll say the lack of bass doesn't hurt it at all. It sounds fine the way it is.

Also, Pantera's Power Metal is one of their best albums and features some of Dime's best work.

Agree, but it's still looked at by most people as less than MOP or RTL.

Yes, it is, but it was also the first record in the US to show declining sales for Maiden and most people always talk about NOTB, POM and PS as their best era. I actually like the Synth era better. SIT is freaking great too.

I think it's pretty obvious that one decade of AC/DC was pretty darn special compared to all the others.

Again, you can always tell a real AC/DC fan is loyal to the Bon era, but there are still too many people that think of BIB is their high point. I just think HTH destroys it in every way.

You sure you didn't mean to say Long Cold Winter, as opposed to Night Songs? Not that NS is bad at all, of course.

Ha Ha... not even close. I think LCW was their last good album, but to me it doesn't hold a candle to the riffs on NS

Agree with both of these. PM is my third favorite album from them behind CFH and VD. And of course has a completely different sound than those.

I wouldn't say best, but it is freaking up there for me too.

It sounds a lot like CFH to me. People who have never listened to their hair metal phase probably expect it to sound like Poison or Cinderella, but its nothing like that.

Agree, as were Overkill, Exodus, Death Angel, Kreator, Destruction and a whole host of others. Always bugs me Anthrax is even mentioned as one of the big four. And I do like some Anthrax, but nothing overly special in my mind.

Definitly has some of the same solo elements and singing styles but without the Exhorder riffing that came on CFH and got more in your face on VD.

My list......

Pantera was the heaviest band of the 90's and redefined what metal should be.

Grunge took off because of the pop hair metal bands all sucked- Poison, Twisted sister, bon jovi, warrant, Def Lep after hi n'dry

Born Again is the best Sabbath album after Master of Reality. Despite the crappy mixing.

Slayer and Anthrax both sound like crap to me. I just don't get either band.

Rush- anything after signals was just stupid. I love the band , but the keyboard/grunge rush sucked arse.

Van Halen is the best American band by far.

Deep Purple fans all adore machine head, burn, in Rock, who do we think they are ect....... The only ones I ever listen to regularly are Made in Japan and Perfect Strangers which are both head and shoulders above anything else they released.

Vito Bratta from White Lion could outplay Eddie Van Halen back in the day.

Dio's Holy Diver album is better than anything he ever did w/ Sabbath or Rainbow. I wish he would have sung about something other than rainbows. Dragons, darkness and night. That shite got old quick.

Cheap Trick is the best pop band of all time.

Skynyrd should have ended after the plane crash- the bozos touring as Skynyrd are an embarrassment.

I feel the same about ZZ Top. Their stuff through Deguello is awesome, but after that everything is meh...
