Joel was on the band’s 1996 album. That was around the time they were beginning to get heavy exposure in the CCM world.

Peter Furler took on prominent lead vocal duties in 1994, perhaps most notably with the single “Shine.”

While James and Furler shared vocal duties until their ‘98 album, the songs that garnered the most attention on radio were sung by Furler.

So for me, I consider Joel & Furler to be classic Newsboys as they were present during the band’s period of heavy exposure. Not to mention when one hears Newsboys on the radio, nine times out of ten it’s a song with those two in it.

They’re just great songwriters anyway, Joel penned a great jam with “Entertaining Angels.”

Not going to lie - Would love to listen to more Christian music.

Could use some help here.

I very usually don't like the hardcore/metal Christian bands.

When people list a band, can they also list style/genre? Screamo and Christian lyrics just never do it for me.

Wow blast from the past. Recognize mostly all of these artists in this thread.

quote:

Christian overtones without being a Christian band.

Some favs that fit the above:

Switchfoot
Needtobreathe
Wilder Woods (Needtobreathe's lead singer's solo project) really good stuff - soul/rock/folk
Judah and the Lion (personal favorite) - folk rock/hop
JUDAH. (Judah and the lion's lead singer's solo project, much more Christian themed but keeps it real)
Mutemath (from NOLA, electronic rock)
Paul Meany (lead from Mutemath, producer for twenty one pilots, just released his first solo album)
Mat Kearney
Drew Holcolmb and the Neighbors (Americana)
