My wife got me to listening to this guy, albeit begrudgingly.
I'm big enough to admit that I was wrong and this cat may be one of the biggest talents in many generations. Dude can flat sing ANYTHING.
From his own #1 songs he wrote for other artists, to Prince, to Oak Ridge Boys, to Waylon Jennings. I'm convinced this guy could sing the menu at Waffle House and make a #1 out of it.
Of all the songs this dude wrote for mega stars before he released his own album, wouldn't you think that somewhere along the way someone somewhere would have thought, "damn, this dude can flat out sing."
Thoughts?

I was like you once. But then I just accepted how amazing he is.

I've more than accepted it. I told my wife if he was within 5 hrs driving that we were going to see him. Tickets were bought the other day to Columbus in April.
You can count the concerts I've been to on one hand but I'm pumped for this one.
Plus, we're going to see Arron Lewis in Jan. She's turned me into a damn groupie.

He is pretty legit and couldn't be rising at a better time than when country is perhaps at its lowest.

He's got a hell of a voice, and that always helps.
I really rate him as a High average songwriter.

Check out The Steeldrivers. I like that more than his solo stuff.

He can sing and write, but he ain't pretty. For a while, Nashville valued looks above all. Also, as previously mentioned in this thread, the climate in country right now is ripe for singer-songwriters and substance.

There aren't many country singers today that I like, but Chris Stapleton is pretty decent, not gonna lie.

Listen to his lead on the Steeldrivers and Jompson Brothers...great vocals.
Steeldrivers - If It Hadn't Been For Love
SteelDrivers - Blue Side of the Mountain
Steeldrivers - Where Rainbos Never Die
Jompson Brothers - "Barely Alive"

Thanks baw. Will definitely be adding the Steeldrivers stuff to my Spotify play list.

Amen to this. That "bro-country" shite makes me want to rip my radio out of the damn dash.

He's good, and damn good in concert, but I still prefer Isbell, Sturgill, and Brent Cobb above him in terms of that new wave of country that goes against everything that is modern country.

Hopes that Stapleton's entry into the mainstream paves the way for country to move back to its roots away from the pop/bro country direction. A rare few of the big names are moving back that direction (Miranda's Vice is seemingly a harkening back to more traditional country music)

Shine on a Rainy Day is a great album.

I sure hope so.

Stapleton is great.
Since Miranda was mentioned, go listen to her new album. It's absolutely insane. Tin Man is one of the best songs I've heard in a while.

He's Jason Aldean with long hair and a beard. I've given him a fair shake, because of all the hype. But he doesn't have it.

I'm not a new country fan, but I like this guy. He is real.
