Probably not one of the strongest or best voices in country history but definitely had his heart in the right place. He was born in Biloxi and later moved to Texas, and then Wyoming.
What impressed me was his ability to record his songs and sell his albums out of the back of his truck at rodeos in the 70's to earn money for his rodeo fees. Put out 30 albums; no major label helped him until the nineties with a little shoutout from Garth in 1989. Chris said he didn't realize he had such a huge following. Said there were songs about truckers and lovers, but no rodeo songs so he set out to make those.
He was the 1976 Bareback World Champion. Quit the rodeo in the early 80s due to a string of injuries.
Died in 2005 with liver/bile duct cancer. Had 5 children, one of whom, Ned, sings and performs and sounds just like his dad.
some of my favorite Ledoux songs
Bareback Jack
Cadillac Cowboy
Riding for the Fall
Copenhagen Angel
Cadillac Ranch
Cowboys like a little rock and roll

Ledoux and Brooks career trajectory tell the story of what is wrong with what “country” radio has become. Ledoux should have been a platinum seller and all over the radio while Garth and Chris Gaines should still be staring at themselves in the mirror.

Always loved “Hooked on an 8 Second Ride” and that guitar riff makes it almost sound like a rock song. Could be considered Outlaw Country.
