Chester had a very unique voice and is irreplaceable. Sure Mike had a good voice too, but he can't pull off the harder songs like Chester could

I think that misses the get a new singer part

You can't just "replace" big name lead singers.

Sure you can. Lots of bands have done it. Bennington was the one bitching at fans trashing the new album on facebook and twitter. I wonder if the rest of the band can continue and go back to the nu metal sound that made them popular in the first place. I don't think they attracted many new fans with their pop sound. All they did was drive off old fans and Bennington being a whiny bitch to the fans only made it worse.

Never liked Linkin Park but I'll nevertheless admit I like "Burn It Down."

His vocals made that song.

You ever think the lashing out was due to the mental problems he was having? Clearly he was in a dark place and all the people bitching about the new album certanily didn't help

Anyone who liked early Linkin Park should check out Hollywood Undead. The lyrics are even worse somehow, but the sound is catchy and fun all the same, especially since they brought in an actual singer on the 2nd album.

I'm late to the party, but every Linkin Park song was a suicide letter if you really listen to the lyrics. It's sad. I loved Linkin Park when I was younger and I still do. Chester Bennington was a talented, but troubled, soul.

There's also the link to Chris Cornell, one of his best friends.

quote:

Authorities are investigating Bennington’s death as an apparent suicide, Los Angeles County coroner spokesman Brian Elias said Thursday. Bennington, who was 41, was found dead in his home near Los Angeles. He had a strong bond with Cornell and died on what would have been the Soundgarden singer’s 53rd birthday.

Bennington was also the godfather to Cornell’s 11-year-old son, Chris. And Bennington sang Leonard Cohen’s ‘‘Hallelujah’’ at Cornell’s memorial.

It's not surprising. Chester went through some bad shite as a kid. It's still sad.

Listened to Meteora

It's "cool" to hate on bands like Nickelback, Creed and Linkin Park. However, as you say, Meteora (and Hybrid Theory) represent a moment in time, musically. I enjoyed it for what it was. I don't find myself returning to many of these albums/songs, but I don't/didn't "hate" the music at the time (or now).

If anything, I was happy that anything in the key of rock was getting any sort of airplay/attention. I grew up in the 70s and 80s - after we defeated disco, it looked like rock might be done for as the 90s started. Of course rock is in bad shape now, but we got another decade or more of it out of bands like Linkin Park.
