Can you admit it when your favorite band puts out a clunker?

I have a couple of friends that are uber fans of certain bands. I noticed that they are incapable of admitting when a certain album from that band might not be that good. Anybody ever run into this?

Normally, it takes a year or so. And sometimes the reverse is true. I didn't like Brighten the Corners when it came out, and now its my favorite Pavement album save Slanted and Enchanted. The wild curveball sometimes isn't what we expect, so we react negatively to what is a great album because it wasn't what we expected.

But every so often, Cursive will put out Mama I'm Swollen, and it's so bad, you know right away. What happened, guys?

Anyone who blindly supports anything is ridiculous. Several of my favorite bands who I have seen in concert (AC/DC, Slipknot, and Machine Head) all released shitty albums this year that I decided not to purchase.

In fact, Rock or Bust is the only AC/DC album I do not own.

The Connells - Weird Food and Devastation. Awful, just awful. The best song would be a throwaway on all the rest.

Early mats and Husker Du -

Late Cars/Police/REM -

Yes.

I couldn't stand Mirage Rock by Band of Horses, one of my favorite bands.

Despite its critical love, I didn't care for Reflektor, either.

The self-titled Ryan Adams record is trash. "Wrecking Ball" is okay, the rest I have no use for.

... are f'n awesome. Land Speed Record! And you're wrong about Hootenanny. And Stink. Both are amazing, and everything that makes the Mats great. School sucks.

OK, I'll give you late period Cars, but the Police's last album was Synchronicity. That might be one of the best final albums of any band. REM's quality dipped if only because keeping up the insane quality of their early records is impossible. Their late career records are decent for what they are.

Worst album ever put out in the genre

Synchronicity.
While better than a lot of crap out there, was nothing like what came before. Terrible.

Hell yes. Gone are the days where I treat bands like my college or NFL team.

If you put out a shitty album, like say Tomorrowland or Let's Be Still, I'm pissed most likely because I've been waiting on it and now I have to wait another year for you to get over whatever shite you're trying to do.

Synchronicity is about as far from terrible as an al bum can get.

Same goes for Heartbeat City.
