I’ve been looking at the Braven XXL2 and the JBL Boombox. The boombox is a bit louder from what I can tell and fully waterproof. I know this is trivial, but I just don’t like the design of it. It just looks cheap. The Braven is attractive and I have two other Braven speakers that have really been very high quality. My Ready Elite is an absolute tank and has been beat up with no signs of wear.

Anything else in this category I should be looking at? Has to be super loud and easy to carry. At least water resistant as I will use it on float trips

I have the JBL clip speaker and it’s entirely water proof and gets very loud for being the size of a hockey puck. Bought it specifically for a river float trip and use it all the time

I guess because I love listening to music people assume I need 20 Bluetooth speakers and I get one as a gift all the time. I have tried almost all the major brands, and the loudest ones are made by Bose. They are also the ones that give the best bass, if that's your thing. I can't recall if any of my Bose ones are waterproof. I have a couple of JBL's that are water resistant, but their sound isn't as good at loud volumes as the Bose ones are.

I do like the durability of my Braven, but above a certain volume level it gets really tinny.

For a much better price, you can get a similar sized speaker that sounds fantastic from Nyne Speakers. Check the reviews. I have the original Bass, and it sounds fantastic. I just bought the Punch for a dedicated boat speaker because I have never really liked built ins in a boat.

JBL Charge

Last year I paid $179.99 when it was listed as the best Bluetooth speaker under $200. Now on sale at Amazon and JBL's website for $129.00. Waterproof. One is great but two linked together ROCKS.

I've had the Bose Soundlink Color 1 and 2 among other various bluetooth speakers.

They have been good. The 1 was stolen out of my truck in NOLA and I actually thought it sounded better than the 2. I have taken both on float trips, but they stay in a zip-up case and a dry bag until we hit a gravel bar.

They have a smaller one now that's 100% waterproof and only $100. No idea the sound quality. I've only used cheaper ones I don't care much about on float trips. Would rather just enjoy being outside and not worry about potentially ruining a speaker.

Reviews seem to indicate that the sound quality isn’t great.

I used to go the $25-$30 speaker path for these trips, but the battery life usually sucked and the sound wasn’t great. Then they’d die. Packing a $120 speaker that will last a couple nights became worth it. I have a 20 year old dry bag that’s been in the water some. I trust it and don’t worry too much.
