Better Weezer album?

Was Rivers in the zone or what during that stretch?

A very interesting question you pose. One that has been dissected many times by many people. The two albums are just so vastly different but both excellent. I think the first album is more an "album of my life" like most first albums are for a band while Pinkerton was a much more myopic, personal reflection of Rivers after being in the system for awhile. While Blue will trap you immediately, Pinkerton takes a few listens. However, after those first few listens, it is my opinion that Pinkerton is the better album overall. But if I'm looking for a quick, uplifting power pop track....there is no better place to find it than Blue.

Blue, but I freely admit I never gave Pinkerton the listening time it probably deserved...

Didn't appreciate Pinkerton when it came out. I was 16 and blue was my favorite album ever. As I got I to my 20s and now 30s Pinkerton has surpassed blue. No other one is my favorite song along with across the sea.

The bigger question is after such brilliance on both why the frick does weezer sound more and more juvenile with every passing record. They had excellent potential to be The best pop/rock band of the turn of the century and an all time great. They gave that up to write mtv songs and try to be popular. Pinkerton fricked rivers up terribly but the dude needs to get the hell over it. Fans, critics, etc have long since apologized and given the record it's due and then some. Grow the hell up and do something they actually matches your talents.

Pinkerton, but the Blue one is pretty fricking amazing too.

There's a reason they continue to sellout places where they do the "Memories" shows and play all of the Blue album the first night and all of Pinkerton the second (but, start off each set with 10 other songs). I saw this in Austin a couple of years back...it was pretty awesome
