Best year for music in the 90's?

I am going to say 1995 with 1993 being a close second.

1995 was less about the Seattle thing and more of an explosion of Indy bands. I recall many albums from Veruca Salt's "American Thighs" to Sponge's "Rotting Pinata" to Hum's "You'd Prefer an Astronaut" being very refreshing and a break from Scott Weiland (even though "Purple" was still kicking in 1995) and Eddie Vedder. I recall that summer and listening to college radio and everything was just sounding like rock and not something that I already had grown to love like grunge. 1995 broke us away from everyone wearing Doc Martens and wintertime shirts in the summer and just was about the music.

I think music's last good year of that decade was '96. By '97, Spice Girls, Hansen, boy bands, and bubble gum pop stars and the MTV countdown with Daley pretty much made music about image and videos. Could you imagine that show playing a song by HUM? '97 and into 98 gave us 7dust, more Deftones, and some really good underground stuff but by '98 it became about No Limit Soldiers and Hot Boys and by '99, Blink 182 was the defining band of rock. Yeaaaaahhhh...

What say you? I'd bet some people will say '91 or '92. '94 was pretty great as well, but was more of a second go around, if you will, of the same stuff that captivated us in '91-'92. What say you?
