I'd like to see the proper breakdown on the Lennon-McCartney thang.
Most were penned solo (probably ALL in the late years), and then slapped with the Lennon/McCartney tag.
One need only listen to know who the real author was.
two examples:
Come Together- yeah, a ton of McCartney in there
Helter Skelter- rife with Lennon input (not!)

Correct.
As a kid, I thought McCartney was important. As a teen and later, I knew the Beatles were 90% Lennon, 5% Harrison, and you decide how Ringie and Paul carve up the remainder.

I can't say that lennon was so much greater than Paul.
Paul never took himself quite as serious as John. John was always the dark brooding one. (not that George wasn't)
I just don't think you could have one without the other and have anyhting close to the success the Beatles had as a unit.
I also think there's a place in the world for light hearted music as well as deep thinking music. It's all about the mood your in, but it is interesting to think that people (or music afficianados) feel that only deep thought provoking songs have higher merit in regards to music status and abilities
